F/A-18F Super Hornet Down
Approximately 30 minutes after the helicopter mishap, another incident unfolded involving an F/A-18F Super Hornet from the Nimitz, that is part of the ‘Fighting Redcocks’ of Strike Fighter Squadron 22. This aircraft also went down in the South China Sea during flight operations.
Again, search-and-rescue teams responded promptly, managing to recover the two crew members who had ejected safely before their aircraft impacted the water. Both aviators were evaluated upon returning to the Nimitz and are likewise reported to be in stable condition.
