Dakota Fanning Reflects on a Memorable Moment with Sister Elle
In a recent conversation, Dakota Fanning revealed an unforgettable experience where her sister, Elle Fanning, came to her defense during an uncomfortable night out. This incident highlights their close-knit relationship and Elle’s fierce loyalty.
During an interview with the U.K. Times, Dakota, aged 31, referenced a story previously shared by Elle, who is 27. The sisters discussed this moment in a joint interview with Vanity Fair back in September.
During that interview, Elle shared how protective she felt towards Dakota and her willingness to intervene if necessary. “I actually screamed at someone for her,” Elle recalled. “I didn’t throw a drink, but I did knock it over and accidentally spilled it on the guy.” While this detail amused the audience, Dakota elaborated further about the encounter.
She playfully remarked, “It was even worse. She accidentally spat her drink out on the man.” This candid recollection sheds light on the strong bond the sisters share, showcasing their willingness to support one another in uncomfortable situations.
The Fanning sisters both made their film debuts in 2001 with the movie “I Am Sam”. Dakota played the role of Lucy while Elle portrayed the younger version of her character. Despite their early start in Hollywood, Dakota and Elle have always placed family at the forefront of their lives.
During the conversation with Vanity Fair, Dakota emphasized the strength of their bond, stating that competition never existed between them. “We obviously share a lot, but we’re very different,” she explained. “So I don’t even see something that’s right for her as being right for me. I don’t feel competitive. But I know that people probably don’t believe that.”
Elle added, “When we were younger, we wanted to make sure that people saw us differently, and we wanted to give each other space to carve our own path. But as adults, it’s been very fulfilling to merge.”
Elle recently expressed pride in being Dakota’s younger sister. Reflecting on her journey, Elle stated, “I just want to do everything that she does. I’m a nepo sister. Of course I got opportunities because people are like, ‘Oh, it’s Dakota Fanning’s sister. We’ll see her audition.’” This sentiment reinforces the mutual admiration they hold for one another.
As Dakota shared, her perspective toward Elle has shifted as she aged. “I just want her to have everything that she wants,” Dakota said. “What’s mine is hers, and I feel the same thing back from her. We have that mentality in our family. When something good happens, it’s shared by all of us because we’ve all helped each other get to where we are.”
In 2021, Dakota and Elle co-founded their production company, Lewellen Pictures. Soon, audiences will see them reunite on screen for the first time since their childhood film. They are set to star as sisters in “The Nightingale,” an adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s 2015 historical bestseller.
This upcoming film marks a significant milestone in both their professional careers, highlighting their collaborative spirit and shared values. As they embark on this new project, their familial bond continues to be a source of strength and inspiration.
In her interview with Times, Dakota reflected on navigating the dating scene as a single woman in Los Angeles. While Elle is currently in a relationship with Gus Wenner, the CEO of Rolling Stone, Dakota shared an amusing anecdote about a psychic’s prediction regarding her love life. “My sister spoke to a psychic who said, ‘Your sister is not going to meet the person she is going to marry until she’s 32.'” Dakota humorously noted her disbelief at the timeline.
The actress acknowledged that she is active on Raya, an exclusive dating app popular among celebrities. Though Dakota admitted hesitance in fully engaging with the app, she expressed frustration over common dating profiles she’s seen. “Oh my God, ask your single girlfriends,” she exclaimed. “Every man says, ‘Must love mountain biking, and want to go on a hike, and want to be really adventurous and outdoorsy, must love dogs and want to go to the summit of Everest.'”
The expectations voiced in these profiles left Dakota feeling disconnected. “I’m like, no, I don’t want to do any of that, and if I do I’ll do it when I want to,” she pointed out.
Despite her frustrations with the dating scene, Dakota remains committed to finding love and building a family. She’s experienced blind dates set up by friends that ended up being disappointing, leading her to question their friendship and matchmaking skills. Nevertheless, her resolve toward building a family hasn’t waned. “Being a mother is the pinnacle to me. It’s the thing I can’t wait for most in my life,” she declared. “I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want kids. For whatever reason, it is something in me.”
Setting high standards for herself, Dakota added, “I know what I have to give and I know what I deserve in return. I’m super happy to wait for that.” Her statements are a testament to her self-awareness and commitment to fulfilling her personal dreams.
The enduring bond between Dakota and Elle Fanning shines brightly in their personal and professional lives. From supporting one another during awkward moments to navigating the complexities of love and career, their close relationship serves as a reminder of the importance of family and the strength it can provide. As they continue to grow in their careers, their shared journeys enrich not only their lives but also inspire others who admire their work and dedication.
