A dedicated elected official in South Florida is making a heartfelt commitment to donate his salary to the family of a police officer who tragically passed away in a car accident this week. This officer leaves behind a wife and three young children.
Miami Beach Commissioner David Suarez shared his intentions with Fox News Digital, stating that he plans to connect with the family of Miami Beach police officer David Cajuso, allowing them the necessary time to grieve.
At just 33 years old, Cajuso had dedicated ten years to the police force. He served as a motorman, renowned for his courage and dedication to public service. The police department honored his memory in a Facebook post following the announcement of his death.
“You couldn’t find a better officer. He was truly a cop’s cop. He was one of the best,” Suarez remarked. “He leaves behind a widow and three very small children. As a married man with three small children myself, I can only imagine the challenges my wife would face without me.”
Officer Cajuso’s life was abruptly cut short after a tragic traffic accident occurred along the northbound lanes of Interstate 75, near NW 138 Street.
Miami Beach commissioners have an annual salary of approximately $70,000, which includes their base pay and monthly allowances, according to Suarez. In this time of grieving, the commissioner hopes that his donation can make a difference for Cajuso’s family.
Community members remembered Cajuso as a good officer who always showcased a warm smile and upheld the highest standards of professionalism. His commitment to the community left a lasting impression.
“I recently spoke to him about the importance of supporting law enforcement, and we shared mutual friends from my time with the FBI and Miami Beach Police Department,” noted Nicole Parker, an FBI special agent and Fox News contributor residing in Miami Beach. “He genuinely cared about protecting others, particularly the most vulnerable, like children.”
Parker expressed her sadness at Cajuso’s passing, saying, “I was crushed to learn of his passing and even more heartbroken when I saw the photos of his beautiful family – a wife and three young children. Having lost my closest friend in the line, I understand the devastating impact on the children left behind; it is beyond words.”
Commissioner Suarez emphasized the vital role law enforcement plays in ensuring public safety, particularly in Miami Beach. “We stick up for our law enforcement,” he stated. “It is essential that we support each other.”
Suarez lamented that many politicians do not advocate strongly enough for law enforcement and their families. “It’s a tough job. Law enforcement officers have families who are deeply affected by their work,” he remarked. “People often forget that they have spouses and young children. We must highlight the human side of those who protect us, especially since many have faced vilification in the media over the past few years, which also impacts their families.”
As the community reflects on the sacrifice made by Officer Cajuso, Commissioner Suarez’s pledge to donate his salary highlights the importance of unity and support for law enforcement families during such challenging times. By coming together, the community can provide much-needed assistance to those who serve and protect, ensuring the legacy of heroism and dedication continues.
