Curtis Sliwa Channels Braveheart Spirit in Race Against NYC’s Socialist Agenda

Curtis Sliwa is entering the final stretch of New York City’s mayoral race with the spirit of ‘Braveheart’ guiding him. He is confident and prepared to defend the city he cherishes, using a defiant stance as his rallying cry.

In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Sliwa, who is well-known for his hardline approach to crime and unfiltered messaging, characterized his battle against Democrat nominee Zohran Mamdani and his socialist supporters as a courageous fight for the future of New York City.

The founder of the Guardian Angels referred to Mamdani’s backers as ‘Zohranistas,’ drawing a parallel to the Sandinista socialist movement in Nicaragua. Sliwa firmly believes these supporters will abandon the city if their candidate fails, contrasting their potential exit with his unwavering commitment to remain and combat for the city’s interests.

“If I should lose, I stand and fight,” Sliwa declared. “I improve, I don’t move.”

He elaborated on the resolve of his campaign, implying that Mamdani’s followers have a lack of genuine commitment to the city. Sliwa remarked, “The Zohranistas are already saying they’re ready to flee. The moment we take over the city, they’re all saying they’re gonna sell, run and leave — and then we will run this city.”

A Bold Comparison to Historical Heroes

In his energetic comparison of himself to the character William Wallace from the 1995 film ‘Braveheart,’ Sliwa highlighted the emotional intensity of his campaign. He noted the film’s climactic moments, where Wallace, portrayed by Mel Gibson, stands resolute against overwhelming odds while facing execution.

“I exude confidence, strength, fight — like Braveheart,” Sliwa remarked. He drew parallels between his own defiance and Wallace’s final moments, adding, “At the end, they capture him, they’ve got him on the gurney and the executioner says, ‘You will bow to the King of England.’ He looks at him and says, ‘Do your job.’ Then they impale him, they gut him out. That’s me — Braveheart.”

In this, Sliwa positions himself as the royal opposition, ready to challenge not just Mamdani, but the broader Democratic Socialist movements. He stated firmly, “I will become Zohran Mamdani and the Democratic Socialists of America — AOC. I will become their worst nightmare because I will fight, fight, fight. Republicans don’t surrender, retreat, and run. Democrats do.”

Grassroots Operation and Community Engagement

Heading into Election Day, Sliwa is buoyed by what he describes as an unprecedented grassroots operation across New York City. He shared, “We’ve got 13 campaign headquarters across the five boroughs — nobody’s ever done that before. We’re everywhere. I can feel it — this city’s ready for a real New Yorker again.”

Despite receiving less favorable results in a recent Fox News poll showing him at just 15 percent, Sliwa remains undeterred. He criticized the poll’s conclusions, which indicated that Mamdani was best positioned to tackle crime. “Nobody in their right mind would ever consider that Zohran Mamdani is the law-and-order candidate. I am Rudy Giuliani 2.0,” Sliwa insisted. “That’s why polls don’t elect officials — the people will elect the next mayor.”

Amidst the political turbulence, Sliwa reported that billionaire donors approached him with offers of $10 million to withdraw from the race. He also disclosed that threats against him and his wife have led him to travel with armed security.

A Neighborhood Advocate for All

Sliwa, now 71 years old and born in Brooklyn, has a history that includes surviving a mob hit in 1992, an event that shaped his outlook on public service and safety. “I’m the only real New Yorker in this race — born here, nearly killed here, and I’ll die here,” Sliwa asserted firmly. “They tried to take me out once, but I’m still standing. I’ll fight to the very end.”

Both Mamdani and former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo also hail from New York, adding a local element of competition to the race. Sliwa aims to position himself as a Republican populist appealing to blue-collar voters, while also prioritizing animal welfare through his independent Save the Animals ballot initiative.

“Win or lose, I’ll still be out there with the people — in the streets, in the subways, with the cats, with the cops. That’s who I am,” Sliwa concluded, reinforcing his image as a candidate deeply rooted in community engagement.

Looking Ahead

As the election approaches, Curtis Sliwa embodies the spirit of a political fighter, striving to ignite a movement driven by grassroots connections and a commitment to addressing the concerns of everyday New Yorkers. His unwavering determination signifies a larger narrative within local politics, one where authenticity and allegiance to community take center stage.
