Federal authorities have charged an Illinois man after he allegedly threatened to execute President Donald Trump in a series of disturbing and profanity-laden videos shared on Instagram. The situation has attracted the attention of the Secret Service, leading to serious allegations of making interstate threats against public officials.
The criminal complaint, unsealed on November 1, reveals that 57-year-old Trent Schneider from Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, faces charges for allegedly issuing true threats to cause harm in interstate commerce. According to prosecutors, Schneider’s online activity escalated as he dealt with the impending foreclosure of his home. Disturbing videos and violent memes began appearing on his social media accounts, where he called for Trump’s death.

He stated, “People like me have suffered real f—ing crimes from f—ing judges, doctors, lawyers, police. They all should be killed. One viewer in Florida reportedly witnessed Schneider’s threats and promptly alerted law enforcement. This tip-off initiated a Secret Service investigation into Schneider’s behavior and activities on his Instagram account, which law enforcement claims showcased the threats to a nationwide audience.
Schneider continued his campaign by reposting the same inflammatory video nearly 20 times across several days, each time tagging Trump Tower Chicago. The caption read, “THIS IS NOT A THREAT!!! … AFTER LOSING EVERYTHING and My House Auction date is 11.04.2025 @realDonaldTrump SHOULD BE EXECUTED!!!” This repeated messaging raised alarms and highlighted Schneider’s commitment to his cause, albeit through violent and aggressive rhetoric.
When agents visited Schneider’s home on October 22, they found cameras set up on tripods in his driveway as they attempted to question him. Schneider confronted the officers, instructing them to leave his property, and subsequently posted another video of the officers departing, again reciting his call for Trump’s execution.
This is not the first time law enforcement has interacted with Schneider. In 2022, he gained attention from authorities due to previous violent threats made on social media directed at public officials. Later that same year, he was taken into custody after threatening to “shoot up” a T-Mobile store. Following this incident, a court determined that he was unfit to stand trial in 2023.
Reports indicate that Schneider’s anger may be linked to his impending foreclosure, which was set for auction on November 4. In his alarming social media posts, he frequently lamented about losing everything and placed the blame on various political and judicial figures, whom he labeled as “frauds.” This narrative likely contributed to his heightened emotional state and subsequent threats.
The Secret Service, recognizing the gravity of the situation, sought assistance from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office to conduct search and arrest warrants at Schneider’s residence. The legal repercussions for Schneider could be severe. If found guilty of the charges, he faces a potential sentence of up to five years in federal prison, as well as fines reaching $250,000, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
