Rick Harrison, owner of the renowned Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, recently shared his insights on the state of tourism in Las Vegas during an interview with Fox News Digital. He indicated that many critics have been vocal about the city’s struggles and mentioned that people have been “beating up on Vegas.”

Despite the challenges, Harrison remains optimistic about the city’s offerings. He pointed out the abundance of five-star dining options, claiming that Las Vegas boasts more than any other city in the United States. Harrison emphasized that visitors can find something for every budget in the city.

According to Harrison, concerns regarding high prices may contribute to the decline in tourism. He said, “A lot of people are saying tourism is down in Las Vegas because the prices are too expensive. And that might be part of it.” This assertion aligns with the LVCA’s findings, which attribute the dip in visitors to slower midweek volumes.

One of Harrison’s main attractions, his pawn shop, draws approximately 1,200 visitors daily. He notes a significant proportion of international tourists, stating that around 40% to 50% of his clientele hails from outside the United States. However, he expressed disappointment about the absence of Asian tourists, attributing this downturn to economic challenges in their home countries.

Harrison argues that clarity in pricing could help mitigate frustrations among potential visitors. He mentioned, “That’s what ticks people off – when you go to check out, and it was $149 a night. But after taxes, resort fees, and parking fees, the total can soar to $300 or $400 a night.” He advocates for transparency, stating, “Be upfront with the prices, OK?”

The pawn shop owner prides himself on maintaining pricing integrity. He stated, “I’ve never had a surprise fee for customers of the pawn shop. If I did, I wouldn’t be in business long.” This commitment to transparent pricing may be a strategy that other Las Vegas businesses could adopt to enhance trust and attract more visitors.

She remarked that the combination of various fan zones, live entertainment, and racing excitement is generating buzz among potential attendees. “The scale, scope, and complexity of our different fan zones and activations are really creating a lot of excitement for our guests,” she explained.
