In a powerful message on her show, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow cautioned business leaders against the dangers of aligning with President Donald Trump. Her remarks came on Monday as she critically assessed the current political climate and the risks posed by the president’s unpopularity.
Maddow emphasized that business leaders should reconsider any inclination to cater to Trump for potential economic advantage. She stated, “If you’re a business leader watching this right now, thinking about ‘I wonder if we should continue to do things to really kowtow to Trump and to be really seen, to be putting our thumb on the scale in order to please Trump.’ Take a little temperature of the public here, guys.” Her remarks highlighted the disconnect between Trump’s support and the wider public sentiment.
During her segment, Maddow referenced recent polling data from CNN and NBC News that illustrated Trump’s struggles in public opinion. Notably, the NBC News poll indicated that only 30% of Americans identify with the MAGA movement. In contrast, 43% of respondents supported the emerging ‘No Kings’ protest movement, which signals significant dissatisfaction with Trump’s presidency.
Maddow pointedly compared the size of the two movements, noting that support for the ‘No Kings’ campaign dramatically eclipses that of the MAGA group. According to her analysis, this sentiment reflects a staggering proportion of the population. “Forty-three percent of this country considers themselves supporters of the ‘No Kings’ protest movement, which means not only does the base of support for ‘No Kings’ dwarf the base of support for MAGA, but it also suggests a significant public shift away from Trump,” she explained.
The activist ‘No Kings’ group has gained momentum with widespread demonstrations, reflecting growing public frustration. Maddow expressed her belief that this movement is not only substantial but pivotal. “That’s 147 million people. We’re going to need a bigger boat,” she quipped, framing the challenge facing Trump and his supporters.
Maddow’s enthusiasm for the ‘No Kings’ protests was evident as she recounted her previous coverage of the movement, laughing as she reflected on the intensity of public sentiment. She has characterized the protests as a political phenomenon that challenges the current state of leadership.
In previous episodes, Maddow has been outspoken about her perception of Trump’s presidency. She declared victory over his administration in June, stating that he is
