California Woman’s Gym Membership Revoked After Reporting Unwanted Male Presence in Women’s Locker Room

A California woman claims her gym terminated her membership after she objected to a man frequently entering the women’s locker room at a Gold’s Gym location in Los Angeles.

Tish Hyman shared a video on social media detailing the confrontation that occurred on November 2. Footage displayed the man approaching the women’s restroom as concerned gym-goers looked on. He had reportedly been using the women’s locker room for several weeks.

Despite multiple complaints from various women, Hyman asserts that there was no action taken.

“I need everyone to hear this,” Hyman stated in her social media post. “Multiple women and I have repeatedly made written reports on this man for coming into our women’s locker room harassing us, and the gym staff has done absolutely nothing!”

Hyman recounted feeling a surge of fear when the man entered the locker room behind her, allegedly calling her a derogatory name in a loud, aggressive tone.

“I ran out into the gym screaming, ‘There is a man in the restroom!'” she shared. “I called for help, and thankfully, men in the gym intervened, at which point the staff finally decided to take action.”

While staff members successfully removed the man from the vicinity, they also expelled Hyman.

“They removed him—yet they turned around and terminated my membership too, as if I was being punished for speaking up,” she lamented. “I was literally scared. The women in the gym all agreed with me. Many were relieved that someone finally voiced their concerns.”

Hyman further suggested, “Should we continue giving gyms our money if they won’t protect us? Is it time we consider canceling our gym memberships until they realize that women’s safety isn’t negotiable?”

In subsequent Instagram stories, Hyman expressed her sorrow over losing her gym membership and revealed the online backlash she faced, with many labeling her as a trans-exclusionary radical feminist.

“I’m so upset right now because it feels like I am being punished for speaking out. I feel like I’m being punished for not wanting to be naked in front of men in the restroom,” Hyman explained. “This is not right. I shouldn’t feel assaulted for holding my ground on this issue.”

Another gym member documented the moment Hyman was removed, showcasing her loud objections to nearby patrons.

“Everybody saw that man in the locker room,” she voiced passionately. “No one’s saying anything, and I’m done with it.”

Riley Gaines, a spokesperson for OutKick, circulated the footage on X, commending Hyman for her courage to speak out.

“If we had witnessed such boldness back in 2020, this issue wouldn’t have escalated as it has,” Gaines remarked. “God bless you for loudly speaking the truth.”

Hyman has recounted additional incidents involving the same man. In a video shared last week, he appears in the locker room wearing a sports bra and allegedly told her she should leave because “straight women like d—, and they’re probably looking at me more than you.”

It is imperative to note that underage girls also use this locker room.

The Gold’s Gym Beverly Center, where the incident transpired, recently came under new ownership by EōS Fitness. Attempts to reach both Gold’s Gym and EōS Fitness for comments went unanswered.

Many gyms enforce policies banning cameras or recording devices in locker rooms, which the company may cite as grounds for terminating Hyman’s membership.

According to California law, individuals are permitted to use restrooms and locker rooms that correspond with their self-declared gender identity. This policy extends to gym facilities.

California’s Attorney General has clarified, “You have the right to use the restroom consistent with your gender identity in public settings, such as schools and workplaces,” highlighting the legal backdrop protecting gender identity in such facilities.

Hyman is now calling upon others to advocate for themselves and reconsider patronage to establishments that do not prioritize women’s safety.

“Men, think of your wives, sisters, mothers and daughters,” she urged on Instagram. “Stop men from bullying, harassing, and assaulting women in locker rooms.”
