In a poignant interview with Fox News host Jesse Watters, Erika Kirk, widow of Charlie Kirk, opened up about her grief and the day of her husband’s tragic death. She revealed that she has never watched the chilling video of Charlie’s assassination and never intends to. In her emotional account, she emphasized the traumatic impact of such imagery.
“I never saw the video, I never will see it,” Erika stated, expressing her desire to protect her children from the haunting reality of their father’s violent death. She articulated the sentiment that certain moments in life are indelible and should be avoided at all costs. She asserted, “I don’t want my husband’s public assassination to be something I ever see. I don’t want my kids to ever see that.”
The night prior to the fateful day, Erika and their daughter shared a comforting space in their couple’s bedroom while Charlie slept in their daughter’s room. Erika’s desire was simple; she wanted him to have a restful night before a speaking engagement that filled him with excitement.
“That night, he was so enthusiastic, saying, ‘I can’t wait, it’s going to be the best,’” Erika recalled, setting the scene for the days’ tragic turn.
The following morning marked the last moments Erika had with her husband. “He came in, grabbed my wedding ring and necklace, and then he left. I didn’t even get to give him a kiss goodbye,” she shared during the special segment titled “Erika Kirk: In Her Own Words” on Jesse Watters Primetime.
While Charlie was heading out, Erika remained in Arizona caring for her mother, who was dealing with a medical issue. Charlie had expressed concern, urging her to be home and travel together for the next event.
At her mother’s doctor’s appointment, Erika found solace by reminiscing about Charlie, watching a video of him enthusiastically tossing hats to the crowd at Utah Valley University. However, that moment of nostalgia shattered when a phone call changed everything.
“Mikey McCoy called me,” she recalled vividly. “I’ll never forget, him just being like, ‘Charlie’s been shot. He’s been shot, get the kids, get security, get the kids.’ I sprinted out of her treatment center and just collapsed in the middle of the parking lot.”
In a tragic turn of events, Charlie was fatally shot in the neck just past noon local time. Erika spoke about how that moment plunged her into what she described as an “unbelievable nightmare.”
“The way the bullet hit him, he died instantaneously,” she explained.
