A distinctive Airbnb in England invites guests to experience a night in a barn alongside a miniature horse, available for approximately $230 per night, according to reports.
Brittany Sparham, 28, decided to rent out her barn near Thurgarton, Nottinghamshire, during the pandemic, capitalizing on the growing trend of staycations.
Originally, Sparham intended to offer visitors a simple getaway. Yet, the property’s charm took on a new dimension with the addition of a door connecting guests to her equine companion, Basil, who resides next door.
The barn has quickly become a beloved retreat for animal enthusiasts eager to spend quality time with the 12-year-old miniature Shetland pony.
This enchanting vacation destination sits on the grounds of a 17th-century manor, with offerings starting from £360, or around $470, for a minimum stay of two nights.
Sparham shared, “Initially, we simply had the idea to rent out the outbuilding as a response to the surge in demand for staycations due to Covid. However, with Basil’s stable right next to it, we thought it would be fun to create a door allowing access to Basil for our guests.”
After guests began posting their unique experiences on social media, the barn’s popularity soared. Sparham reported that the Airbnb is often booked up as much as a year in advance.
“It works out well for Basil too, as he always has company and receives plenty of attention,” she noted. Visitors consistently share their excitement about the barn stay, helping to spread the word about this unique experience.
According to Sparham, Basil is a relaxed equine with a penchant for enjoying his time playing in the field during the day. Each night, he eagerly trots back to his stable, excited for the comfort it provides.
“We simply open the gate from the field, and he makes his way in, knowing he’ll receive attention and plenty of hay for the night,” Sparham explained.
The barn itself boasts a well-equipped kitchen, a bathroom, a double bed, and bunk beds, making it suitable for up to four guests. The amenities create a cozy environment for visitors wishing to immerse themselves in rural life.
For guests seeking relaxation, an outdoor log fire with a BBQ grill and a tiki hut adds to the charm of the property. Visitors also enjoy the opportunity to stroll across the bridge, where they can view cows, sheep, and other horses on the expansive grounds.
While guests are advised against feeding Basil directly, the owners offer brushes for them to groom him. Visitors are also welcome to assist in cleaning his stables if they wish.
However, potential guests should be aware that living alongside a horse comes with certain noises and smells. The Airbnb clearly communicates these aspects to ensure visitors are prepared for their stay.
Sparham noted that reactions from prospective guests can vary, particularly from first-time visitors worried about potential odors or noise. Yet, she expressed confidence, stating, “Everyone who stays loves it.”
As the trend of immersive travel experiences continues to grow, Sparham’s Airbnb offers an intriguing opportunity for those wishing to connect with animals in a rustic yet comfortable setting.
This creative abode not only provides a memorable escape but allows guests to engage in the daily life of a horse while enjoying the tranquility of the countryside.
