FIRST ON FOX A prominent parents’ rights group is raising alarms about two of the leading teachers unions in the United States. The American Parents Coalition has issued a “Lookout” warning urging parents to remain vigilant, claiming these unions are prioritizing radical agendas that detract from educational outcomes.
The warning specifically targets the American Federation of Teachers and the National Education Association. It asserts that the unions have allocated hundreds of millions of dollars to organizations described as ‘woke’. As such, the coalition argues that the focus on student outcomes is lacking.
The APC highlights that both the NEA and AFT are pushing far-left agendas. These include supporting boycotts related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, conducting activist campaigns against the previous Trump administration, and opposing a Supreme Court ruling that allowed parents to opt their children out of age-inappropriate LGBTQ+ content. Alleigh Marré, the Executive Director of the APC, shared concerns regarding the current trajectory of teachers’ unions. She stated, “Teachers’ unions were formed to support educators and improve classroom instruction. Instead, they have evolved into radical political organizations that push far-left ideology at the expense of student academic success.”
Marré emphasized the importance of parental awareness regarding the influence these unions exert over local schools. She expressed concern that union policies could undermine parental trust and fail to contribute positively to children’s education. The handbook reportedly highlights the use of preferred names and pronouns as paramount while attributing ‘white supremacy culture’ as the primary driver behind institutional racism. Fox News Digital reached out to both the NEA and AFT for comments but has yet to receive any responses. The APC has also taken proactive steps by offering templates for parents to officially submit complaints and request that their local school boards prioritize student performance in educational policies.
The organization advocates for parental rights in education, stating, “Parents have the right to know what their children are taught, approve sensitive content, see who influences the classroom, and hold decision-makers accountable.”
