Dolly Parton at 79: Unstoppable and Just Getting Started Despite Recent Setbacks

Dolly Parton refuses to slow down as she approaches her milestone 80th birthday. The iconic country music legend is preparing for the release of her upcoming book titled “Star of the Show: My Life on Stage,” where she reflects on her remarkable career that has spanned over seven decades.

Amid the release of her book, Parton, who recently lost her husband Carl Dean in March, candidly discusses the personal sacrifices she has made throughout her prolific life. In an interview, she expresses a vibrant outlook, insisting she feels like she is just beginning her journey.

Reflecting on a Lifetime of Achievements

Parton, 79, shared her thoughts with People magazine, revealing the whirlwind of activity that has defined her life. “You know, I have just been going so fast my whole life,” she began. “How did I even get it done?” This introspection during the creation of her book led her to a profound realization about her past choices. As she noted, she has no regrets about not having children, which has allowed her to pursue her dreams without the weight of guilt.

“People say, ‘Well, you’re going to be 80 years old.’ Well, so what? Look at all I’ve done in 80 years. I feel like I’m just getting started,” she asserted. Parton remains unwavering in her belief that age does not define her capacity for achievement. “I ain’t got time to get old! I ain’t got time to dwell on that,” she added.

Health Challenges and Resilience

Despite her optimism, Parton has faced significant health challenges in recent months. In September, she announced the postponement of her much-anticipated Las Vegas residency from December 2025 to September 2026, raising concerns among her devoted fanbase.

In response to prevailing rumors about her health, Parton took to social media in October to address her audience. “Well, today’s October the eighth, and obviously I’m here doing some commercials for the Grand Ole Opry,” she said, displaying her characteristic humor while dressed in a western outfit. “I know lately everybody thinks that I am sicker than I am. Do I look sick to you? I’m working hard here.
