The conclusion of the longest government shutdown in U.S. history has not quelled criticism directed at Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. Media personalities, including comedians and former White House staffers, have voiced their disapproval of Schumer’s handling of the crisis.
Following a pivotal moment when eight senators defied party leadership to signal the end of the shutdown, the spotlight has turned sharply on Schumer. Throughout the shutdown, he and other Senate Democrats insisted they would not vote to reopen the government without an unassailable deal on expiring Obamacare subsidies.
