During a lively appearance at the McDonald’s Impact Summit 2025 in Washington, D.C., President Donald Trump humorously claimed he is the first former McDonald’s fry cook to rise to the presidency. He jokingly noted that his 30-minute shift behind the fryer lasted ‘longer than Kamala’s.’
At the event, Trump leveraged his fast-food background to forge a connection with franchisees, reinforcing themes he introduced during his recent campaign. He emphasized how his work ethic and sense of humor differentiate him from former Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump expressed pride in his brief experience at McDonald’s, stating, ‘I’m honored to stand before you as the very first former McDonald’s fry cook ever to become President of the United States.’ He humorously delineated the short duration of his stint compared to Harris’s tenure at the same establishment.
This playful jab is consistent with his October 2024 campaign stop in Pennsylvania, where Trump donned a McDonald’s apron and worked the fryer amid rolling cameras. During that visit, he aimed to connect with working Americans while ribbing Harris.
Upon entering the restaurant, he was met with cheers. He greeted employees and supporters before heading straight to the fry station, displaying both his charisma and humor. ‘Hello, everybody. It’s my first day at McDonald’s — I’m looking for a job,’ he joked while shaking hands with the restaurant owner. He quipped, ‘I’ve now worked for 15 minutes more than Kamala at McDonald’s.’
While serving fries and taking drive-thru orders, Trump engaged with reporters on various issues, including wages and his long-held aspiration of flipping fries at McDonald’s. He even took a moment to wish Harris a happy birthday while delivering another playful jab.
During the Impact Summit, Trump praised McDonald’s as a hallmark of affordability and American ingenuity. He described himself as one of the chain’s most devoted customers, revealing that his planes were stocked with burgers and fries instead of costly catering options.
Trump attributed the chain’s global presence and value meals as proof of American innovation. He asserted that McDonald’s has significantly contributed to supporting workers and maintaining stable prices for families.
Continuing his narrative, he shared experiences from his campaign travels. ‘I’m also one of your all-time most loyal customers,’ Trump declared. ‘While other politicians fly around on campaign planes stocked with expensive catering, Trump Force One always served McDonald’s. You fed us generously, and I even got Bobby Kennedy to eat a Big Mac — he told me he loved it.’
Linking his adoration for McDonald’s to broader economic themes, Trump pointed out the recent recovery of the economy and easing prices. He credited the fast-food giant for helping reduce consumer costs while keeping jobs in the United States.
Trump announced, ‘In the past six months, the price of breakfast items has fallen 14%. Bread prices are down, dairy prices are down, and the price of eggs has declined 86% since March.’ He extended special gratitude to McDonald’s for playing a role in lowering prices for popular food items, asserting, ‘We’re getting prices down for this country, and there’s no better leader or advocate than McDonald’s.’
Closing his remarks, Trump urged franchise owners to prioritize quality and affordability, referring to McDonald’s as a cornerstone of the American dream. ‘From the cashier starting her first job to a franchisee opening his first location, to the young family in a drive-thru line — that’s the American dream,’ he asserted. ‘I made the French fries, and the response was love.’
