Chicago Man with History of Violent Crimes Arrested Again for Assaulting Women

Chicago Man Arrested Again After Years of Violent Offenses

An Illinois man, notorious for his violent outbursts against women, has been arrested once more after nearly a decade of legal troubles. William Livingston, aged 32, was taken into custody in Chicago on November 12 by officers from the Chicago Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, as reported by local news outlet WGN.

This latest arrest is linked to an incident on June 12. During this event, Livingston allegedly struck two women, one aged 29 and the other 40. He now faces two felony counts of aggravated battery stemming from the assault.

History of Violence

Livingston’s record of violence is alarming. Prior to this incident, he had previously spent time in jail after assaulting Kathleen Miles, a mother of 11 children, on August 19. Miles was walking to a local train station with a co-worker when Livingston approached her from behind and punched her unexpectedly, rendering her unconscious. Surveillance footage captured the attack, highlighting the severity of the assault.

In an emotional reflection, Miles remarked on the brutal nature of the assault, stating, “All I can think of is it takes so much anger to hit someone with so much force. There’s no way to be prepared for this.” Following this incident, Livingston faced multiple felony charges including aggravated battery in a public space.

A Pattern of Assaults

Livingston’s rap sheet indicates a troubling pattern of violence against women. Before this case, he amassed a total of seven arrests over the last decade, many of which involved similar aggressive behavior. In 2022, he allegedly assaulted Cami Blechschmidt, a DePaul University student, while she awaited a Lyft ride after visiting a nearby Starbucks. Blechschmidt recounted the assault, recalling, “I felt a hand in my pocket. I turned my head and there was a man directly in front of me, and he punched me directly in the face.”

Police apprehended Livingston approximately 15 minutes after this attack, leading to charges of four felony counts of aggravated battery for attacking four women in just 22 minutes.

Legal Actions and Community Safety

In a statement, the Cook County State Attorney’s Office addressed the ongoing legal matters surrounding Livingston. They emphasized their commitment to reviewing each case based on available evidence and legal standards. When necessary, the office pursues pre-trial detention for individuals deemed a danger to the public, as they did during Livingston’s first court appearance in August 2025. This marked their request for detention, which the court approved.

Livingston remains in custody at Cook County Jail as he awaits trial for the latest allegations against him. Prior to 2022, he had been arrested twice in 2017 and received aggravated assault charges in 2015 and 2016.

Community Reactions and Concerns

Local community members express growing concerns about repeat offenders like Livingston. Blechschmidt, reflecting on her experience, stated her belief that he is a serial offender. “I think that he’s definitely a repeat offender. They’re not doing anything to keep him in,” she remarked after her assault.

Amid rising fears regarding safety, the Chicago Police Department and U.S. Marshals Service did not respond to requests for comment on this situation. The alarming frequency of violent incidents involving repeat offenders raises critical questions about the effectiveness of current measures aimed at protecting the community.

Looking Ahead

The issue of repeat violent offenders is increasingly pressing for urban communities like Chicago. With incidents of violence creating fear among residents, discussions surrounding law enforcement practices and judicial responses are more relevant than ever. As Livingston prepares to face the legal consequences of his actions, many community members hope for a re-evaluation of measures to ensure the safety of residents.

These developments not only spotlight the systemic challenges within the justice system but also highlight the need for more effective intervention strategies. Ensuring the safety of the community requires a multifaceted approach that addresses the underlying causes of such violent behaviors while providing robust support for victims.

With ongoing investigations into William Livingston’s actions, the city watches closely as this situation unfolds, hoping for justice and improved safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
