Tragic Loss of Alhambra Officer Highlights Sacrifice in the Line of Duty

First responders throughout Los Angeles County are grieving the tragic loss of an Alhambra police officer who died heroically in the line of duty early Thursday morning. Officer Alec Sanders, aged 28, was involved in a pursuit that ended in a devastating crash.

According to reports from FOX 11 Los Angeles, the events unfolded around 3 a.m. when Alhambra officers initiated a chase of an SUV containing three suspects. This high-speed pursuit concluded with a violent collision between the suspect’s vehicle and Sanders’ patrol SUV.

The crash was so forceful that one female suspect was ejected from the vehicle and sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The damage to Sanders’ patrol vehicle was extensive, with the front nearly crushed and airbags deployed.

Upon arrival of emergency responders, they found Officer Sanders unconscious and without a pulse within his SUV. He was immediately transported to Los Angeles General Medical Center, roughly four miles away, where he was pronounced dead several hours later.

Alhambra Police Chief Garrett Kennedy revealed that Officer Sanders had voluntarily covered an overnight shift that night, showcasing his dedication to his role and community.

The Alhambra Police Department described Sanders as “a dedicated public servant, a trusted partner, and a caring friend.” Their heartfelt statement emphasized his reliability and the profound impact he had on colleagues.

“He exhibited unwavering dedication, both on and off duty,” the department noted. “Officer Sanders exemplified the values of honor, integrity, and courage in his service. His sacrifice will forever be etched in our memories.”

Officer Sanders had joined the Alhambra Police Department in April 2025, after spending a year with the Long Beach Police Department. His commitment to law enforcement remained unwavering throughout his career.

A solemn procession was held to honor Officer Sanders as his body was transported to the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office later that Thursday. Heartfelt tributes filled the area, with numerous police officers following behind the van carrying his remains. Various first responders, including members from different police and fire agencies, lined the streets outside the hospital, paying their respects to the fallen officer.

Sanders leaves behind a fiancée, his parents, and two younger siblings, all of whom are mourning his loss. The Alhambra Police Department issued a statement requesting thoughts and prayers for his family and loved ones during this exceptionally challenging time.

“We sincerely appreciate the overwhelming support from our law enforcement partners and community members,” Alhambra police expressed on social media. “Thank you for standing with us as we honor Officer Sanders’ life and service.”

This profound tragedy serves as a somber reminder of the risks faced by those in law enforcement. Every day, officers step into the line of duty, ready to protect and serve their communities, often at great personal peril. The sacrifice of Officer Alec Sanders underscores the noble yet dangerous nature of police work.

As the community reflects on this tragedy, conversations about police safety and community relations arise. It is crucial for supporters and leaders to address these concerns, ensuring the safety of officers as they work to maintain peace and order.

Returning to the core values that drive officers like Sanders, many in the community call for increased support systems and training. These measures can foster safer encounters between law enforcement and the public, reducing the potential for violence during high-stress situations.

Officer Sanders’ dedication to his duty and his ultimate sacrifice will resonate deeply within the community and among law enforcement agencies. His memory will continue to inspire those who serve and protect.

Amidst this loss, community members and fellow law enforcement professionals are encouraged to come together, sharing their stories and support for one another. The legacy of such brave individuals should propel a conversation about honoring their commitment through systemic support and initiatives aimed at improving police-community interactions.
