First responders throughout Los Angeles County are grieving the tragic loss of an Alhambra police officer who died heroically in the line of duty early Thursday morning. Officer Alec Sanders, aged 28, was involved in a pursuit that ended in a devastating crash.
According to reports from FOX 11 Los Angeles, the events unfolded around 3 a.m. when Alhambra officers initiated a chase of an SUV containing three suspects. This high-speed pursuit concluded with a violent collision between the suspect’s vehicle and Sanders’ patrol SUV.
The crash was so forceful that one female suspect was ejected from the vehicle and sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The damage to Sanders’ patrol vehicle was extensive, with the front nearly crushed and airbags deployed.
Upon arrival of emergency responders, they found Officer Sanders unconscious and without a pulse within his SUV. He was immediately transported to Los Angeles General Medical Center, roughly four miles away, where he was pronounced dead several hours later.
