Candace Cameron Bure Reflects on Choosing Faith Over Hollywood Roles

Candace Cameron Bure is opening up about her decision to reject numerous Hollywood scripts during her youth, emphasizing her commitment to her personal beliefs.

In a recent interview on the Stay True podcast, Bure candidly explained, “I was just honestly never the kid that wanted to do the risky thing, that wanted to use my body or my sexuality to get ahead. My morality meant more to me, and my character has always meant more to me than the success of things. That’s a part of inherently me — not because I’m trying to be the righteous person, but I just genuinely was not that kid that wanted to do that.”

Staying True to Personal Values

As Bure’s career progressed, she found it increasingly easy to decline roles that did not resonate with her values. She noted that turning down scripts that contradicted her moral framework was straightforward, stating, “So it made for some of those decisions when I would get presented a script that went against my own moral boundaries… it was an easy decision to say, ‘No, I don’t want to do that,’ because I genuinely didn’t want to do those things.”

Confronting Hollywood Norms

Despite her strong convictions, Bure admitted that the allure of Hollywood can be formidable. Throughout her career, she faced pressures from peers who chose different paths. Notably, Bure highlighted stars like Melissa Joan Hart, who transitioned to more adult roles in the aftermath of her stint on Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

Bure recalled moments when she wrestled with the choices of her colleagues, saying, “And you’re like, ‘Oh, well, they’re posing in that magazine or taking sexier pictures — maybe it’s not Playboy, it’s kind of sexier…’ Is that something I should do? … Wow, they’re getting a lot of attention. Is that how I’m supposed to grow up in front of America? Is that how I’m supposed to transition into an adult?”

Defining Success on Her Terms

Ultimately, Candace Cameron Bure chose to follow her convictions instead of succumbing to industry expectations. Her decisions reflect a deeper commitment to authenticity rather than a mere pursuit of career opportunities. She articulated, “I think that’s where we see a lot of younger stars when they do transition into that, ‘Oh, I’m 18, I’m 21,’ and they want to prove they’re older now and not seen as a child — that’s where those big, important decisions come in. What do you do with the opportunity?”

Navigating Criticism in the Spotlight

As a prominent figure in entertainment, Bure also addressed the challenges of maintaining confidence in a world quick to judge. In her dialogue with Fox News Digital, she reflected on the significance of remaining centered amid criticism, stating, “The world is always going to criticize, and you can’t please everyone. Sometimes you just let it roll off.”

Bure finds strength in her faith and her family, affirming, “I know who I am because I know who God tells me that I am, and I have such a loving and wonderful family at home.” She believes in surrounding herself with loved ones who provide support, especially when facing negativity. She added, “It’s very easy to stay rooted and planted around the people that I love … when there are unwanted opinions, you just go, ‘OK, you can have them, you’re welcome to them. I don’t need to look at them or think about them.’”

A Lasting Partnership

In her personal life, Candace Cameron Bure shares a strong bond with her husband, Valeri Bure, a former professional hockey player. The couple became engaged in June 1995 and exchanged vows a year later. Together, they are proud parents of three children: daughter Natasha, and sons Lev and Maksim.

The Bure family’s dynamic exemplifies how shared values and mutual support can empower individuals to navigate the complexities of life in the public eye. Candace Cameron Bure’s journey stands as an example for those seeking to remain true to their beliefs while pursuing their dreams in a challenging industry.
