Irish comedy writer Graham Linehan, best known for creating the popular sitcom “Father Ted,” has been acquitted of allegations that he harassed a teenage transgender activist on social media. However, the court has found him guilty of damaging the activist’s phone, resulting in a penalty that includes a fine and other costs.
On Tuesday, at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London, Linehan was ordered to pay £500 — roughly $655 — plus £650 in costs and a statutory surcharge of £200. This judgment came after it was determined that Linehan had intentionally struck the phone of activist Sophia Brooks during an encounter.
