“Fruit juice can have some benefits, including vitamins and micronutrients. However, the processing removes much of the fiber that works in conjunction with its natural sugars,” Dumont explained.
Importantly, he stressed that fruits should not be demonized due to their sugar content. According to Dumont, there are numerous health benefits associated with consuming whole fruits. However, individual metabolism plays a crucial role in how our bodies react to these sugars.
“For someone who is metabolically healthy, fruits can be beneficial. Yet, for those who are insulin resistant, even healthy fruits may be too much to handle,” he clarified.
Despite this, Dumont emphasized that for most people, particularly those who aren’t severely metabolically compromised, whole fruits offer a well-packaged source of natural sugars and nutrients.
Dr. Dumont also highlighted the significance of making healthier choices even when dining at fast food restaurants. Simple decisions can enhance one’s nutritional profile dramatically.
Instead of opting for menu items rich in carbohydrates like breaded chicken sandwiches, he recommends choosing grilled chicken salads. Such choices provide a much more balanced meal option.
“By selecting grilled chicken on a salad with a healthy dressing, individuals can enjoy nutritious meals while on the go. There are always healthier choices available,” he stated.
Dumont’s experience has shown that many patients struggle to overcome chronic health issues when relying solely on medication. He expressed concern about this trend.
“I witnessed many patients deteriorating despite treatment with medication. It was disheartening,” he admitted. “Over the years, I’ve come to understand the transformative power of nutrition and lifestyle changes. Initially, I was trained to be skeptical about these changes.”
