At just eleven years old, Bex, a passionate sports enthusiast from Wisconsin, exemplifies how the right support can help children achieve remarkable dreams. His inspiring story aligns seamlessly with the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and its recent campaign highlighting the importance of club memberships for youth.
Bex is not just any young fan; he has already carved out a niche as a budding sports broadcaster. Hosting his own show and managing his own media brand, he has interviewed both NFL and WNBA stars, co-hosted significant events, and even reports on the Green Bay Packers for a local radio station.
During a recent appearance on Fox & Friends for Giving Tuesday, Bex expressed sincere gratitude to the Boys & Girls Clubs for providing the resources and encouragement necessary for him to pursue his passion.
“Kids love Boys & Girls Clubs,” Bex remarked enthusiastically. “They have programs like the Torch Club that promote leadership skills and empower kids to stand up for themselves.”
Alongside his impressive media accomplishments, Bex is a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Youth Talent Team for 2025. His latest achievement involves signing with a talent agency, where he has begun taking classes in improvisation and acting to bolster his skill set.
The support from the Boys & Girls Clubs has been instrumental in launching his podcast, entitled Shortz on Sportz. From brainstorming the idea to funding travel expenses and supplying essential equipment, the organization has played a vital role in his development as a media professional.
Bex shared that his journey into sports media began unexpectedly with a school assignment. “I had to do a project on someone philanthropic in the community, and I chose Jonathan Owens, a player for the Packers,” he explained.
“Prior to the project, he had given away turkeys to families at the Green Bay Boys & Girls Club. I thought it could be interesting to interview him for my project. We initially didn’t consider it for a podcast but merely as part of my school presentation. Once we realized how well we worked together, the idea blossomed, and I became involved in numerous events, for which I am incredibly grateful.”
The Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s campaign titled America Needs Club Kids aims to inspire and uplift children like Bex, nurturing them to become future leaders of their communities. CEO Jim Clark emphasized that stories like Bex’s embody the organization’s mission. He made a heartfelt appeal on Fox & Friends, urging viewers to contribute to fostering a brighter, strategic future for America’s youth.
“This is the future of America,” Clark stated, highlighting the diverse array of potential that these young individuals possess. “From future doctors to scientists and broadcasters, they all require our support.”
Clark encouraged generous donations, stating, “This year, we would like to ask you to bring two friends or family members to join you in investing strategically in the Boys & Girls Clubs because America needs club kids and club kids need you.”
The Boys & Girls Clubs have proudly served as a cornerstone of community support across the United States for an impressive 165 years. Currently, approximately 5,500 clubs operate nationwide and extend their reach to military bases as well.
According to Clark, the organization serves more than four million young people annually, offering essential support and opportunities for children to thrive both academically and personally. The transformative impact of the Boys & Girls Clubs can be seen in the journeys of many youth, including Bex, who stand as living proof of what can be accomplished with perseverance, encouragement, and effective programming.
Today, the Boys & Girls Clubs continue to strive toward their mission, demonstrating that with community investment and support, the next generation can aspire to achieve their dreams. From learning leadership skills to gaining hands-on media experience, the pathways opened by these clubs pave the way for countless success stories fostering confidence and ambition among America’s youth.
