US Sets Stage for Major Influx of International Fans Ahead of 2026 World Cup

The United States is gearing up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which coincides with the nation’s 250th anniversary. Starting in June, the tournament will feature the majority of matches hosted in stadiums across the U.S. President Donald Trump has taken a proactive approach in the preparations, establishing a White House task force focused on the intricate details of organizing the event. Central to this effort is a commitment to security, ensuring the safety of U.S. citizens and welcoming international visitors.

In an important development, the president announced a new initiative aimed at streamlining the visa process for foreign visitors. Dubbed the “FIFA Pass,” this program is designed to prioritize visa appointments for those traveling to the United States for the tournament. Although the initiative is set to launch early next year, the State Department is already preparing to handle the anticipated surge in travelers.

Matt Pierce, acting principal deputy assistant secretary in the Bureau of Consular Affairs, discussed the visa process in an interview with Fox News Digital ahead of this week’s draw in Washington, D.C. He emphasized the State Department’s dual focus on welcoming international visitors while upholding the Trump administration’s commitment to national security.

“As the president has mentioned, we aim to host the best and most successful World Cup in history. The State Department is actively supporting this goal by ensuring that visa appointment availability meets the demand while maintaining the integrity and security of our visa process,” Pierce stated.

Currently, the State Department is taking significant steps to prepare for the influx of travelers heading to the U.S. next year. The agency has expanded global appointment availability, resulting in wait times for visa interviews reduced to fewer than sixty days in 80 percent of countries. This proactive approach reflects Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s previous remarks, indicating that the administration has dispatched over 400 additional consular officers worldwide to address the expected demand.

“We have enhanced our resources at key posts to accommodate ticketed fans, while simultaneously ensuring that rigorous vetting of visa applicants is upheld,” Pierce explained. His comments underscore the Administration’s resolute commitment to national security amid the excitement surrounding the World Cup.

While efforts are concentrated on facilitating entry for ticket holders, Pierce highlighted that ensuring visitors meet the necessary entry criteria remains a paramount concern. “We take this responsibility seriously. The visa process serves as the front door to the United States,” he remarked.

According to Pierce, the State Department collaborates closely with governmental partners involved in the visa process to thoroughly vet applicants and confirm their eligibility for entry. “Our systems and processes are reliable, and we are dedicated to maintaining security throughout this procedure. This has been a significant initiative under the Trump administration, and resources are being allocated to secure it effectively,” he assured.

FIFA revealed earlier this month that approximately one million tickets have already been sold since sales began, with U.S., Canada, and Mexico leading ticket purchases as host countries.

To facilitate travel, the State Department is encouraging prospective visa applicants to begin their applications immediately. This proactive approach aligns with President Trump’s vision for the World Cup as an opportunity to showcase American excellence on a global stage. Pierce stated, “This is a significant moment during our historic anniversary, providing a chance for fans to explore the U.S. and experience everything our nation has to offer during what we anticipate will be the greatest World Cup ever held.”

With security and accessibility at the forefront, the U.S. is stepping up its preparations for the World Cup, aiming to deliver an unforgettable experience for fans worldwide.
