Exclusive — Nate Morris has expressed that a significant contribution from Elon Musk to his Senate campaign in Kentucky offers a powerful boost. The pro-Trump business outsider stated that this funding “certainly gives us the firepower and the ammo to go the distance, to be able to get out our message.”
Morris, a businessman and political newcomer who is aligning himself with President Donald Trump and the MAGA movement, revealed Musk’s $10 million donation aimed at his campaign. The funds are directed towards the Fight for Kentucky super PAC, which supports his candidacy.
This donation from Musk, recognized as the world’s wealthiest individual, marks his largest contribution in a U.S. Senate race to date. Morris is now among the leading contenders in the Republican primary, which features notable candidates such as Congressman Andy Barr and former Attorney General Daniel Cameron. All aim to succeed retiring Senator Mitch McConnell, who long led the Senate GOP.
Morris stated, “Elon picks winners. Elon has been the greatest entrepreneur in the history of our world, and people will be talking about him for 1,000 years. He understands success and shows leadership, and this is another instance of him backing what he believes in.”
Thus far, Morris has primarily funded his own campaign while also receiving small donations from supporters nationwide who oppose the McConnell establishment and favor sending a pro-Trump outsider to the U.S. Senate.
He emphasized the importance of Musk’s investment in amplifying their campaign message and defining who they aspire to be as Senator representing Kentucky. Morris believes his candidacy represents a shift toward a more business-oriented, straightforward approach to governance.
When inquiring about Musk’s support, Morris mentioned a recent conversation he had with the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX. He suggested that, according to Musk, he sees Morris as an outsider willing to confront the McConnell establishment directly: “I think he recognizes my background in job creation and my firm stance on immigration policy.”
Musk shares a close relationship with Vice President JD Vance, who counts Morris among his personal friends. This connection might have influenced Musk’s decision to invest in Morris’s campaign.
The donation was first reported by Axios earlier this week and represents Musk’s largest single expenditure supporting a candidate for federal office, aside from his notable backing of Trump.
In the 2024 election cycle, Musk pledged around $300 million to Trump’s campaign through the America PAC, a super PAC aligned with Trump. These funds were primarily utilized for outreach efforts and advertising in key battleground states during the presidential election.
It is important to note that Musk and Trump had a significant falling out in 2022, with Musk indicating intentions to form a third political party. However, their relationship has improved over recent months, paving the way for Musk’s financial backing once again.
Following a dinner meeting with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida in November, Musk has contributed significant sums to major GOP-aligned super PACs backing Republican candidates in both the House and Senate.
Morris began his campaign in June during a podcast interview with Donald Trump Jr. He launched his candidacy officially at a rally alongside conservative leader Charlie Kirk, who ultimately endorsed him shortly before a tragic incident ended Kirk’s life.
Several prominent MAGA figures have endorsed Morris, including Senators Bernie Moreno of Ohio and Jim Banks of Indiana, as well as Steve Bannon, the former Trump strategist and host of the influential “War Room” podcast.
In response to Musk’s donation, Andy Barr’s campaign manager, Blake Gober, issued a statement. He claimed that “the more money Nate Morris spends, the more Kentuckians get to see him, and the worse he does in the polls.”
Gober continued, stating, “Nate Morris’s spending has narrowed the race to just two candidates: Andy Barr and Daniel Cameron. Increased spending will solidify that outcome further.”
The Democratic side of the Senate race features eight candidates, including former nominee Amy McGrath, all vying for their party’s nomination. As the primary approaches, scheduled for May 19, the eventual winner from the GOP is anticipated to be a strong contender in the general election set for November.
