A teenage girl has lost her life and another teen is critically injured following a sledding accident involving a Jeep in Texas, according to local authorities.
Emergency responders from police and the fire department arrived at the scene shortly before 3 p.m. on Sunday. They were called to a residential street in Frisco, Texas, where the tragic sledding incident took place.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered two 16-year-old girls suffering from life-threatening injuries. They immediately initiated life-saving measures and transported the teenagers to nearby hospitals.
Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, one of the teens succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The other remains in critical condition, prompting ongoing medical attention.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 16-year-old boy was operating a Jeep Wrangler, pulling the two girls on a sled. Eyewitnesses reported that the sled struck a curb before colliding with a nearby tree, leading to the tragic outcomes.
Frisco police have chosen not to disclose the identities of the three teens due to their juvenile status. However, a heartfelt social media post from Megan Angle identified her daughter, Elizabeth Angle, as the girl who died.
Megan Angle shared her grief in a poignant message, stating, “It is with deep despair and utter shock that Brian and I announce the passing of our beautiful 16-year-old girl, Elizabeth Marie Angle.”
Elizabeth’s mother reminisced about her daughter, describing her as “a bright light, a fun spirit, a brave soul” who had recently celebrated receiving her driver’s license and a car.
Megan Angle continued by reflecting on the fleeting nature of life, expressing, “Life is fleeting and precious. I take comfort that she had people helping her until the end. We will never be the same and never forget how much love she brought to our family. Please lift her up in prayer.”
Elizabeth was a sophomore at Wakeland High School, where she excelled as a student. In addition to her academic pursuits, she played soccer on both her school team and the FC Dallas club team, showcasing her athletic talent and dedication.
The investigation into the incident remains active, with police officials emphasizing the importance of community safety during extreme weather conditions. They issued a warning to residents about the dangers that snow and ice can pose, stating that these conditions can lead to serious or even fatal accidents.
This tragic event coincided with a significant winter storm that affected many areas across the nation, including Texas over the weekend. Heavy snowfall and debilitating ice covered much of North Texas, creating treacherous conditions on the roads and sidewalks.
Local authorities have urged citizens to exercise caution when engaging in winter recreational activities, particularly sledding and driving, as the risk of accidents increases dramatically in such weather.
In the face of this heartbreaking incident, the community is encouraged to come together to support the families affected by this tragedy. It’s a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the need for collective compassion during challenging times.
As families and friends remember Elizabeth Angle and pray for the recovery of her friend, the broader community reflects on the importance of safety and the need to cherish every moment.
