The premiere of the latest season of American Idol concluded with a poignant audition that brought Carrie Underwood to tears. The emotional moment featured a touching tribute to a young girl who tragically lost her life to suicide.

During Monday’s episode of the renowned singing competition, judges welcomed Heather Wyatt, a mother who suffered the heartbreaking loss of her 13-year-old daughter, Aubreigh, to suicide in 2023.

She introduced Khloe, a talented young performer who wrote and performed a song dedicated to her daughter. Wyatt explained to the judges, “I’m here to introduce Khloe … a young girl who, about a year ago, wrote and performed a song in honor of my daughter, Aubreigh, who we lost to suicide.”

In a heartfelt confessional, Wyatt recalled first hearing Khloe’s song and how it resonated deeply with her. “I first heard Khloe’s song about a year ago and immediately cried. It was beautiful. It reflected Aubreigh’s struggles. Aubreigh is my forever 13-year-old daughter. She was bright, beautiful, and talented, enduring years of bullying and social media pressures before taking her life unexpectedly on Sept. 4, 2023,” Wyatt shared.

Before her audition, Khloe confided in host Ryan Seacrest about the inspiration behind her song entitled Forever 13. “Something kept telling me to write that song, so I did. I felt it so much in my heart to write this song,” said Khloe, who had never met Aubreigh.

Wyatt expressed her gratitude to Khloe, stating, “This is my first time meeting her and thanking her for the song,” as they shared an emotional embrace. Their connection highlighted the incredible power of music to foster understanding and healing.

Underwood emphasized the importance of music when she told Khloe, “Music is very powerful, and it can help let people know that they’re not alone.” As the 15-year-old began singing her original song dedicated to Aubreigh, the room filled with raw emotion.

Following her performance, Lionel Richie, one of the judges, expressed his admiration. “I am just so moved. That’s a gift right there. That’s God looking back at you,” he said. Meanwhile, Underwood commended Khloe’s emotional depth. “The way you had your heart broken for someone you didn’t even know and took that and basically said, put something positive is going to come out of it … It’s pretty incredible,” Underwood remarked, her voice trailing off with emotion.

Luke Bryan acknowledged Khloe’s potential as a songwriter and performer, noting how her ability to write about Wyatt’s experience reflected her unique gifts. All three judges commended Khloe, granting her the opportunity to advance to the next stage of the competition.

This season’s premiere showcased more than just Khloe’s touching tribute. Jesse Findling, a 20-year-old college student with a severe stutter, also moved the judges with his powerful singing performance. Despite his challenges, he delivered an impressive audition that left the panel in awe.

Findling shared his background with the judges, explaining how he has always loved singing. “I’ve been singing ever since I was little with my brother and sister. We would pull up karaoke tracks and sing together. I did choirs in school, despite my stutter, which has made me feel embarrassed at times,” he admitted.

He described singing as freeing, expressing how his stutter disappears when he performs. “When I sang, it was a way for me to express myself without fear of embarrassment or judgment. It is still an outlet for me now,” he said with a sense of pride.

During his performance of Bensen Boone’s In The Stars, the judges were captivated. Bryan remarked, “I don’t think I blinked one time. Wow. You’re a real singer. Thank you, man. I’m really proud of you. I love this show because we get to meet kids like you.” Furthermore, Underwood praised Findling, saying, “Your voice is beautiful. You have a beautiful vibrato and tone, and we could understand everything you were singing. You emotionally connected with the song, which made it stunning.”

Richie encouraged him further, declaring, “Problem. What problem? You don’t have a problem. The only challenge in your future is figuring out how to navigate your career.” His comments reflected the admiration and support the judges felt for both Khloe and Jesse.
