FIRST ON FOX: Despite increasing criticism from immigration advocates and Democratic leaders, Immigration and Customs Enforcement continues to execute its mandate by arresting violent offenders. This week, the agency spotlighted several serious arrests as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance community safety.
Over a 24-hour span, ICE apprehended five undocumented immigrants charged with heinous crimes. Among those apprehended was Jesus Acosta-Ichaurrondo, a Mexican national previously convicted in California of multiple offenses, including rape by force, sodomy of a minor, and other serious charges related to violence and coercion.
In addition to Acosta-Ichaurrondo, Jaime Briseno Resendez, another Mexican national, was arrested. His convictions in California include continuous sexual abuse of a child and committing lewd acts against minors, which adds to the grave concerns surrounding these incidents.
ICE also detained Engelber Eduardo De Leon-Hernandez, a Guatemalan national, who faced convictions in Utah for sexual abuse of a child. This incident underscores the agency’s focus on apprehending individuals accused of endangering children.
Furthermore, Daniel Salto from Ecuador was apprehended in New York City after being found guilty of assault. Additionally, Jose Zamora Escalona from Cuba was arrested in Florida for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. These arrests reflect ICE’s commitment to removing dangerous individuals from communities across the United States.
A spokesperson from the Department of Homeland Security informed Fox News Digital that under the direction of President Trump and Secretary Kristi Noem, ICE is targeting what they describe as the most dangerous criminal aliens. The spokesperson emphasized that the recent arrests focus on individuals such as child predators and violent offenders, highlighting the agency’s role in public safety.
The spokesperson stated, “These are the type of thugs we’re getting off the streets and OUT OF OUR COUNTRY every single day. A considerable percentage of all ICE arrests, approximately 70%, involve criminal illegal aliens charged or convicted of crimes in the United States. The public can track the criminals removed from their communities by visiting a dedicated government portal.”
These arrests come at a time when DHS reports an alarming increase in assaults against agents, which have surged by over 1,300%, alongside an 8,000% spike in death threats. The spokesperson noted the risks agents face as they work to apprehend individuals deemed to be the worst of the worst.
Anti-ICE protests have surged recently, particularly in Minnesota, where demonstrators have taken to the streets following tragic incidents involving federal immigration enforcement officials. In recent weeks, significant protests arose after the shooting deaths of American citizens Renee Good and Alex Pretti, igniting further protests directed against ICE operations.
On Monday, law enforcement took action against protestors in Minnesota. Authorities declared an unlawful assembly after a protest outside a hotel escalated, resulting in the arrest of several demonstrators. Reports from various sources indicated that tensions during these protests had increased significantly.
Democratic legislators in Congress, along with two Republican senators, have called for Secretary Noem’s resignation in response to this wave of anti-ICE sentiment. This ongoing tension reflects the complex and often contentious nature of immigration enforcement in the United States.
Former President Trump commented on the current political discourse, maintaining support for Secretary Noem. Trump expressed confidence in her leadership, stating, “Secretary Noem is doing a very good job.” He also commented on border security, saying, “The border is totally secure. We inherited a border where millions of people crossed. Now it is effectively under control.” When pressed about Noem’s potential resignation, Trump firmly stated she would not be stepping down.
This series of recent arrests and the accompanying controversies illustrate the ongoing national debate surrounding immigration enforcement and the balance between public safety and the rights of undocumented immigrants. As ICE continues its operations to apprehend criminals, the implications for communities across the U.S. will remain a critical topic of discussion.
Journalistic coverage will continue to follow developments in this story, shedding light on the ongoing enforcement actions taken by ICE, community reactions, and the broader implications for immigration policy and public safety.
