Sharon Osbourne recently opened up about a significant career decision she made regarding her husband, Ozzy Osbourne. During an appearance on The Magnificent Others podcast hosted by Billy Corgan, Sharon revealed her regret over turning down a major opportunity for the iconic rocker.
In a candid moment, Sharon recounted a time when Ozzy, 76, was offered an audition for the wildly popular film franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean. She expressed her reservations about the role, believing it would not be suitable for him.
“Do you want to know the biggest mistake I ever made with Ozzy?” Sharon asked Corgan during the podcast. She went on to explain, “He got offered to go and read for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’… I’ve never said this to anyone, and I said no.”
Sharon’s admission highlighted her belief that Ozzy would have excelled in that role. “Now wouldn’t he have been perfect?” she mused, acknowledging the missed potential for her husband.
Corgan’s enthusiastic response underscored the sentiment shared by many fans of both Ozzy and the film franchise. “He would have been perfect! Maybe it’s not too late, but God bless,” Corgan said, indicating that while the moment has passed, the idea still resonates.
Sharon further illustrated her point by reminiscing about how Johnny Depp chose Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards to play a pirate in the franchise. Richards embodied the character of Captain Teague in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, demonstrating how musicians can make successful transitions into acting.
While Ozzy has a history of appearing on screen, including roles in Austin Powers in Goldmember and Little Nicky, many fans believe his distinct personality could have found a perfect fit in the Pirates of the Caribbean universe. The possibilities remain tantalizing, especially considering the scale of the franchise.
Sharon’s revelation comes at a time when Ozzy has faced numerous health challenges. Recently, he admitted on his Sirius XM show, Ozzy Speaks, that he struggles with mobility issues but emphasized his gratitude for still being alive.
“I go on about the way I can’t walk, and I can’t do this… but you know what I was thinking over the holidays? For all my complaining, I’m still alive,” he stated during the January 29 broadcast.
Ozzy expressed deep introspection about his life, reflecting on friends and acquaintances who have passed away. He mentioned, “There are so many friends and acquaintances that have gone. I have to balance myself when I get out of bed. I’m not dead, still actively doing things.”
Despite his health issues, Ozzy is preparing for a monumental performance with Black Sabbath’s original lineup set for July in Birmingham, England. “It’s my time to go back to the beginning, time for me to give back to the place where I was born,” he shared in a statement, expressing his heartfelt connection to the city. “How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love. Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham forever.”
Ozzy Osbourne’s influence on rock music is unparalleled, but his journey has not been without significant challenges. Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2003, his health issues have prompted him to reevaluate his touring capabilities.
In 2023, Ozzy officially announced his retirement from touring, citing physical limitations that prevent him from fulfilling the demands of a rigorous tour schedule. His candid remarks about mortality and resilience resonate deeply with fans, reminding them of the powerful connection between artist and audience.
Sharon’s reflections on Ozzy’s career opportunity serve as a reminder of the complexities surrounding personal choices and their long-lasting impacts. As they navigate Ozzy’s health challenges together, their bond remains a source of strength and inspiration.
