Kathie Lee Gifford Reveals Trump’s Role in Protecting Her from Death Threat

Kathie Lee Gifford, the beloved TV personality, shared a harrowing story about how former President Donald Trump intervened to protect her and her newborn daughter from a dangerous stalker. This revelation came during her heartfelt interview on “The Sage Steele Show,” where she expressed deep gratitude for the help she received.

A Nightmarish Encounter from the Past

Now 71 years old, Gifford reflected on a traumatic incident that took place over three decades ago. She was about to host the prestigious “Miss America” pageant in Atlantic City when her late husband, Frank Gifford, received alarming news. The FBI contacted Frank, revealing that a man with a violent criminal background was pursuing them.

“The FBI called my husband and said, ‘Mr. Gifford, we have a problem. There’s this guy. This is a very, very bad human being. He was a psychopathic murderer — a rapist and murderer. And he’s coming to get your wife,'” Gifford recounted, her voice trembling.

Facing a Life-Threatening Situation

Just six weeks after giving birth to her daughter Cassidy, Gifford, along with her baby and a nanny, had plans to travel to Atlantic City. At that moment, Frank was informed of the looming threat. The FBI advised Frank and Gifford to maintain their scheduled plans to avoid alerting the suspect.

“They said, ‘We would like you, Mr. Gifford, to just keep your schedule and have your wife keep her schedule, because this guy, we don’t want him to know that we’re on to him,'” Gifford said. This decision led to a series of events that would demonstrate the importance of their network.

An Unexpected Ally

Upon learning the gravity of the situation, Frank made one critical phone call. “He called Donald,” Gifford explained, recalling Frank’s conversation with Trump. “He said, ‘Donald, we’ve got this situation.’”

Trump’s response was immediate and reassuring. “And this is why I will love this man for my whole life,” Gifford stated, becoming emotional. “He said, ‘Frank, don’t you worry about it. I’ve got your girls. I’ve got your girls. And don’t you worry.'” Gifford felt an immense sense of relief knowing that Trump was willing to lend his support.

A Mysterious Helicopter Ride

While Gifford remained unaware of the perilous situation, she was surprised to receive a call from Trump, who informed her that he was sending his helicopter to transport her to the hotel. Initially confused, she later recognized that this gesture was a means of ensuring her safety. Trump created a cover story about the helicopter ride, claiming it was simply a congratulatory gesture for her new baby.

“I said, ‘Donald, why? He said, ‘Because you’ve had a baby.’ I said, ‘Donald, women have babies every day. It’s no big deal.’ And he goes, ‘No, congratulations. So happy for you … I’m sending my helicopter for you and your baby and your nanny,'” Gifford shared. Despite her attempts to decline the offer, Trump remained resolute, insisting that she arrive safely.

Security Arrangements in Place

Upon arriving in Atlantic City, Gifford was met by members of Trump’s security team. Their presence came as a shock. “Mrs. Gifford, Mr. Trump wants you to know that we’re here for you,” they informed her. Feeling overwhelmed after just giving birth, Gifford did not fully grasp the situation.

Throughout the week leading up to the pageant, Gifford benefited from enhanced security measures. She noticed the persistent presence of undercover security, yet did not connect the dots until later. On the very day of the pageant, her instinct was to inquire about the unusual surveillance, yet she quickly dismissed her concerns.

Understanding the Threat

While in the lobby on the pageant day, Gifford was struck by a headline in a newspaper detailing the death threat against her. She promptly contacted the pageant organizers, who questioned her willingness to still participate. Determined and fearless, she responded without hesitation, “Hell, no! Nobody’s going to make me afraid.” This statement demonstrated her resilience in the face of danger.

Gifford later connected the dots regarding the protection provided by Trump and Frank. She recognized their efforts were aimed at fortifying her resolve against fear.

Revelations of a Narrow Escape

Following the eventful pageant, Gifford learned that even her son, Cody, had been shielded from danger. An FBI agent had been stationed at their Connecticut home to monitor the situation. Days later, Gifford received the comforting news that the suspect was apprehended while out at a movie theater with Cody.

“In the middle of the movie, one of the FBI guys comes over and goes, ‘Mrs. Gifford, we got this son of a b—-,'” she recalled warmly, thanking them for their support.

A Lesson in Gratitude

During her interview, Gifford revealed that she had seldom discussed this story in the past. Guided by the late Rev. Billy Graham’s advice to avoid political involvement, she had focused on conveying messages of faith and love. Now, with Graham gone, Gifford felt compelled to share her gratitude for Trump’s seemingly political connections and support.

“He said, ‘Just tell people that God loves them,'” she recalled. Now, Gifford is ready to tell her side of the story. She acknowledged the complexity of her feelings toward Trump and his controversial rhetoric. Yet, she believes her narrative reflects Trump’s genuine character.

Revisiting the Past with Clarity

Gifford passionately articulated her admiration for Trump, stating, “That’s my friend Donald. Saved my life. Saved my daughter’s life. And if I called him today, he would save it again.” Her journey serves as a powerful reminder that, even in the darkest times, there are heroes willing to step in and safeguard others. Gifford’s story stands as a testament to the importance of solidarity amid danger.
