Former President Donald Trump and tech entrepreneur Elon Musk have separately expressed their support for Vivek Ramaswamy in the race for Ohio governor. Ramaswamy, a businessman and political newcomer, announced his candidacy on Monday to succeed the term-limited Republican Governor Mike DeWine in the upcoming 2026 election.
Vivek Ramaswamy officially kicked off his gubernatorial campaign during a rally in his hometown of Cincinnati. In front of a packed audience, he promised to transform Ohio into the state of excellence in America.
“I will lead Ohio to become the state of excellence in America,” Ramaswamy declared confidently, rallying a crowd eager for change.
Donald Trump announced his support for Ramaswamy via a post on his social media platform, Truth Social. Trump, who competed against Ramaswamy in the 2024 GOP presidential primaries, highlighted Ramaswamy’s unique qualities.
“VIVEK RAMASWAMY is running for Governor of the Great State of Ohio. I know him well, competed against him, and he is something SPECIAL,” Trump praised in his post.
He elaborated on Ramaswamy’s credentials, emphasizing, “He’s Young, Strong, and Smart! Vivek is also a very good person, who truly loves our Country. He will be a GREAT Governor of Ohio, will never let you down, and has my COMPLETE AND TOTAL ENDORSEMENT!”
Shortly after Trump’s announcement, Elon Musk, who serves as a senior advisor to Trump, publicly endorsed Ramaswamy. In a post on the social media platform X, Musk stated, “Good luck, you have my full endorsement!” This rapid succession of endorsements may provide Ramaswamy with significant momentum as he embarks on his campaign.
During the rally, Ramaswamy focused on his vision for improving Ohio’s image, countering recent perceptions held by younger generations. He stated, “Think that sounds unrealistic? It’s not. In fact, it wasn’t long ago that Ohio was that state. Today, young people on the internet make fun of something by saying ‘that’s so Ohio.’ But less than a century ago, people weren’t making fun of Ohio, they were aspiring to be Ohio.”
His remarks highlight a nostalgia for Ohio’s past while encouraging residents to aspire for a better future under his leadership.
At just 39 years old, Ramaswamy has a notable political narrative. He previously ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024 but withdrew to endorse Trump. Since then, he has served as a prominent surrogate for the former president.
His experience as a businessman gives him a unique perspective on governance, which he hopes to leverage in his gubernatorial campaign. Ramaswamy aims to appeal to both traditional Republican values and progressive reforms, seeking to attract a diverse electorate.
Ramaswamy is assembling a strategic campaign team, including top political advisors who previously supported other Republican candidates. These advisors are expected to help navigate the complex political landscape as he vies for the governor’s seat. Their expertise may prove invaluable as Ramaswamy seeks to differentiate himself in a crowded political arena.
As the campaign unfolds, challenges will undoubtedly arise. Ramaswamy must effectively communicate his vision to a diverse constituency, balancing the needs of different voter segments. Additionally, he will need to counter potential opposition from established local politicians and navigate the evolving political dynamics in Ohio.
Nevertheless, the endorsements from influential figures like Trump and Musk create a promising platform for his candidacy. With their backing, Ramaswamy hopes to galvanize support, transforming his campaign aspirations into electoral success.
As Vivek Ramaswamy embarks on this political journey, his pathway is illuminated by high-profile endorsements and a compelling vision for Ohio’s future. The upcoming months will be crucial for him to solidify his campaign’s framework and appeal to a broad base of voters. With the backing of prominent figures like Donald Trump and Elon Musk, he stands at a pivotal moment in his political career as he seeks to redefine what’s possible for Ohio’s governance in the years to come.
