Country music sensation Colt Ford is relying on his faith after a harrowing experience—he faced a near-fatal heart attack, an event that profoundly reshaped his life.
On April 4, before a scheduled performance in Arizona, Ford encountered a terrifying health crisis. The beloved singer of ‘Slow Ride’ nearly lost his life during this incident.
After the heart attack, Colt Ford revealed an astonishing detail: he died twice before reaching the hospital and spent eight days in a coma.
When Ford eventually woke up in a hospital bed, he felt a spiritual awakening. He shared with Fox News Digital that this experience was a clear sign from God.
Ford recounted, “God just told me, I need to sit down and pay attention to what’s going on around me.” The 54-year-old musician added, “I think I try to use it for something as positive as I can. No matter what it is, I’m meant to have that second chance. That just doesn’t happen. You know? It is such a gift. I realize how precious some things are now, and it makes me focus a little bit differently.”
This near-death experience has prompted Ford to reconsider his priorities. “Wow. It’s been pretty profound, for sure. It just makes you realize some of the things you think are important or that maybe you were chasing as a younger man … they’re not really that important,” he reflected.
He further expressed vulnerability, explaining, “I’ve always been an alpha male kind of guy. And all of a sudden, I wake up out of a coma and I can’t even feed myself ice out of a Styrofoam cup. It’s very humbling.”
In a candid moment during an appearance on the ‘Big D & Bubba’ show, Ford disclosed that he “didn’t even remember” his journey to Phoenix for the performance. He humorously recalled, “I walked back to the bus, texted my fiancée, ‘Hi baby,’ and fell over dead. I died two times. Luckily, my band came out to check on me. That’s when all hell broke loose.”
When questioned about any symptoms before the incident, Ford described it as a perfect storm. He was simultaneously addressing his weight and was on a path to a healthier lifestyle before his health crisis.
In 2022, Ford began transitioning to a healthier lifestyle after being diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disease that weakens muscles. This diagnosis compelled him into a significant overhaul of his health habits.
“That myostatin really messed up my vision and caused a lot of fatigue,” Ford remarked to Fox News Digital. “I just started getting that under control.”
Growing up in the South, Ford candidly shared his struggle with unhealthy food habits. He noted that his touring lifestyle rarely afforded him the opportunity to avoid indulgent eating.
“I’m from Georgia. We fry things, we put butter on it, we put gravy on it. I would love to eat my mama’s cubed steak and rice and gravy and mac and cheese. I loved all that stuff, including Zaxby’s and fried chicken. That’s what I ate on the road, too.”
Post-heart attack, Colt Ford made a conscious decision to modify his diet and avoid excessive indulgence. He reported, “I broke the cravings for a lot of that stuff. I don’t want to go eat it anymore.”
His diet underwent significant changes; Ford swapped out fried chicken and sodas like Mountain Dew for grilled foods, water, and unsweetened tea. “I haven’t had a soda since April,” he noted.
He has also embraced exercise as a part of his new lifestyle. “I’m on the treadmill a lot and trying to get into some yoga and Pilates,” Ford laughed, admitting he never envisioned himself pursuing such activities.
“I’m working on getting my strength back and my balance. It’s OK. I’m fighting through it. I’m still here. I’m still blessed,” he affirmed.
Ford’s incredible transformation is evident; he reported weight loss from around 350 pounds to approximately 190 pounds now.
With a second chance at life, Ford eagerly anticipates the future. As he speeds toward 2025, he is energized to create new music and collaborate on fresh projects, all while keeping a mindful approach to his health.
Recently, he released his first single since his heart attack titled ‘Hell Out of It.’ The song unexpectedly took on new significance following his health scare. “I loved the song instantly when Cole sent it to me. But then after this, it took on a whole different meaning,” he said.
Ford collaborated with his friend Michael Ray for this new track, emphasizing a return to basics in the song’s message. “I’m trying to make things simpler, be a good human being, and be a good steward of the Earth,” he concluded.
Colt Ford’s journey illustrates the power of faith, resilience, and transformation. After facing death, he emerged with newfound clarity and an invigorated spirit, ready to tackle life’s new chapters. His story is not just one of survival; it embodies a powerful lesson—the beauty in second chances and the importance of cherishing each moment.
