EXCLUSIVE: Fox News Digital sat down with GOP Representative Abe Hamadeh to discuss the current landscape of the U.S. military after several years under the Biden administration. This conversation took place following Hamadeh’s recent visit to an Arizona Air Force base where he experienced an F-16 fighter jet flight and engaged with service members.
During this visit to Luke Air Force Base in Maricopa County, Arizona, which is home to 70% of the world’s F-35 pilots, Hamadeh observed a renewed vigor within the ranks. He stated, “Under President Trump’s leadership, there’s a renewed sense of purpose in our military. He has made it clear from day one that his mission is to reenergize and refocus our armed forces.” These words underscore a significant sentiment shared by many in the military community.
Hamadeh, who took flight in an F-16 and posted an accompanying video on social media, highlighted how the military is returning to its core mission. He remarked, “Eliminating the failed woke DEI agenda pushed by the Democrats has already boosted morale.” This assertion aligns with growing concerns among military personnel regarding political influences within military operations.
The congressman drew from his experience, recalling his time as a captain and intelligence officer in the U.S. Army Reserve. He noted that during the early stages of the Biden administration, the primary focus was on a military-wide stand-down to address claims of ‘right-wing extremism’ within the ranks. Hamadeh argued that such decisions are counterproductive, saying, “That kind of political nonsense has no place in our armed forces. Now, with President Trump and Secretary Hegseth at the helm, the military is returning to its core mission, being the most lethal fighting force on earth and defending America’s national security interests.”
Fox News Digital has reported extensively on the challenges facing military recruitment during Biden’s presidency. In this regard, Hamadeh expressed concern that this decline stems from a lack of focus during the administration’s tenure. He emphasized that many Americans have witnessed a disturbing pattern of disrespect toward military personnel from their own government. He stated, “One of Biden’s worst decisions was forcing service members to take the COVID vaccine, disregarding their personal and religious freedoms.”
Hamadeh pointed out that the culture of disrespect was fundamentally exacerbated by the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan. This unfortunate event led to significant tragedy and embarrassment for the U.S. military. “President Trump has already taken action to correct these wrongs. By executive order, he reinstated thousands of service members who were wrongfully discharged for refusing an experimental vaccine. Under his leadership, respect for our troops is being restored, and recruitment will rise again because service members know they’ll be treated with the dignity they deserve,” he asserted.
In reflecting on his time at Luke Air Force Base, Hamadeh spoke about the military’s urgent need to prioritize essential values over political correctness. He described DEI initiatives as a “disaster” for the military, saying that warfighters should focus on strength, discipline, and mission success rather than political indoctrination. He criticized what he sees as the left’s obsession with identity politics, claiming it distracts from the military’s primary objective: maintaining its status as the most formidable fighting force in the world.
Hamadeh believes that if there is any sector that should operate on merit-based standards, it is the military, which is tasked with protecting and securing the nation. This perspective aligns with Trump’s executive order from January that aimed to eliminate DEI from military policies. Hamadeh, who serves on both the House Armed Services Committee and House Veterans Affairs Committee, contended that such changes are crucial for improving military effectiveness. “President Trump understands that victory, not virtue signaling, is the priority,” he noted.
By shifting the military’s focus back to its fighting capabilities, the expectation is that it strengthens morale and improves recruitment outcomes. Hamadeh stated, “By removing DEI and refocusing on warfighting, we are ensuring that our troops are prepared, our adversaries are deterred, and America remains strong.”
Fox News Digital previously highlighted a potential uptick in military recruitment, particularly after Trump’s election victory. Reports indicate that the U.S. Army experienced its most successful recruiting month in 15 years in December 2024. This uptick is seen as a direct response to changing leadership and a refocused mission.
As discussions about military reform, recruitment strategies, and leadership continue to evolve, the insights shared by Representative Hamadeh reflect broader sentiments within the military community. By fostering an environment that values discipline and effectiveness, military leaders hope to prioritize national security and restore public trust in the armed forces.
