Republican lawmakers are pressing the Department of Justice for the release of classified documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and several other federal secrets. Their recent inquiries received a response but did not meet their expectations.
Last month, President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing federal agencies to develop plans for releasing and disseminating top-secret documents. This directive specifically includes information regarding the assassinations of prominent figures such as Senator Robert F. Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Leading the charge is Representative Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., who heads the House Oversight Committee’s Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets. After sending letters to the DOJ on February 11 and February 19, she finally received a reply.
In a post on X, Luna shared, “My office just received a formal response from the DOJ on the Jeffrey Epstein, JFK, MLK, and RFK files,” attaching a copy of the DOJ’s letter.
In this correspondence, the DOJ expressed gratitude for Luna’s letters, which detailed her requests for briefings and any documents related to the classified investigations.
Furthermore, the DOJ acknowledged Luna’s demand for written confirmation regarding the date and location of the records’ release.
Patrick D. Davis, Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General, emphasized that maintaining the integrity of criminal investigations is crucial to the Department’s mission to uphold the rule of law and protect civil rights. “The Department remains committed to meeting its legal recordkeeping obligations as it pursues that mission. We are reviewing your requests and look forward to engaging further to accommodate your oversight and legislative needs,” Davis wrote.
He concluded by assuring Luna, “We hope this information is helpful. Please do not hesitate to contact this office if we may provide additional assistance regarding this or any other matter.”
Tea response from the DOJ came just two days after Luna expressed frustration over a lack of communication. “On February 11 and February 19, House Oversight sent a letter to the DOJ asking for a status update on the release of the Epstein files as well as the JFK documents,” she stated on X. “The DOJ has not responded. Reaching out on X because we can’t seem to get a response from the AG. @AGPamBondi, what is the status of the documents? These documents were ordered to be declassified.”
Additionally, Luna has reached out to Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Attorney General Pam Bondi, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and White House Counsel David Warrington. She requested a briefing by the end of the week regarding plans for the documents’ release.
