The Fox News Channel has solidified its position as the most-watched network during President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress. With a staggering 10.7 million viewers, Fox News eclipsed all broadcast and cable news competitors during this significant event.
Among the total viewers, 1.9 million were within the essential demographic of adults aged 25-54, a group highly sought after by advertisers. Trump’s address, which lasted from 9:15 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET, marked the longest such speech delivered by a president to Congress.
Including all Fox linear platforms, such as the FOX Network and FOX Business, the total viewer count rises to approximately 13.8 million, showcasing the channel’s extensive reach.
Compared to Fox News, the three major broadcast networks significantly lagged behind. ABC attracted 6.3 million viewers, CBS brought in four million, while NBC garnered 3.9 million viewers, illustrating the commanding lead that Fox held on this crucial night.
In the realm of cable news, CNN and MSNBC struggled, each capturing approximately 1.9 million viewers. However, CNN managed to edge out MSNBC in key demographics, with 585,000 viewers compared to MSNBC’s 237,000. Fox News claimed an impressive 74% of the total cable news audience during the address, achieving 70% in the coveted demographic.
Fox News continued to dominate the ratings during the analysis segment following the address, from 11 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The network amassed 6.4 million viewers, which included over one million in the key demo. In stark contrast, MSNBC attracted 2.2 million and CNN drew in 1.4 million total viewers. Both channels saw significantly lower engagement within the essential demographic.
