Gal Gadot Shares Harrowing Experience of Brain Clots During Pregnancy

Gal Gadot expresses deep gratitude after a life-threatening medical scare that occurred when she was eight months pregnant. The actress, known for her role in the blockbuster film Wonder Woman, opened up about her alarming health crisis during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

In her candid discussion, Gadot revealed the severe anxiety she faced as she navigated this unexpected challenge. “I had a huge scare. All of a sudden, I realized what it means to be scared to death,” Gadot conveyed, reflecting on the gravity of her diagnosis.

The Medical Emergency Unfolds

Gadot described the ordeal that led to her hospitalization, stating that she suffered from intense headaches for three weeks. Despite seeking medical advice, her symptoms were initially attributed to migraines and hormonal changes, causing her and her family significant concern.

“When I do something, I do it all the way. I had major headaches for three weeks, and I was seeing doctors and different neurologists,” Gadot emphasized. She underscored the importance of being proactive in health matters, stating, “You’ve got to advocate for your health. Our bodies are always communicating with us.” Her mother’s insistence on further medical examination ultimately led to a life-saving MRI.

A Life-Altering Diagnosis

Following her mother’s advice, Gadot underwent the MRI that unveiled a frightening truth: she was diagnosed with three large blood clots in her brain. This alarming discovery prompted urgent medical action. “We did the MRI, they found out this horrible thing, and we were rushed to the hospital,” Gadot said, emphasizing the urgency of her condition. Medical staff quickly performed a thrombectomy, a procedure designed to remove blood clots from the body and restore essential blood flow.

According to health experts, a thrombectomy can significantly lower the risks of complications such as permanent disability or death if conducted promptly. Gadot’s swift response to her symptoms was a crucial factor in her recovery. In her candid reflections, she expressed profound gratitude toward her medical team, acknowledging their role in her recovery.

Emphasizing Vigilance in Health

Gadot used her platform to encourage others to prioritize their health. She advised her viewers to remain vigilant, stating, “Love yourself, check yourself, and be on top of your health.” The actress shares three daughters—Alma, 13, Maya, 7, and Daniella, 3—and a one-year-old son, Ori, with her husband, Jaron Varsano. This experience not only tested her resilience but also reinforced her commitment to her loved ones.

Reflections on Her Journey

In December, Gadot shared a heartfelt social media post reflecting on the challenging year she endured, which included the health scare alongside the joys of motherhood. She posted a picture from her hospital stay after giving birth to her daughter, Ori, encapsulating her mixed feelings of fear and relief.

Gadot revealed the emotional turmoil during this period, writing, “In February, during my eighth month of pregnancy, I was diagnosed with a massive blood clot in my brain. For weeks, I had endured excruciating headaches that confined me to bed, until I finally underwent an MRI that revealed the terrifying truth.” This moment was pivotal, bringing to light the delicate nature of life and the significance of being proactive with health issues.

Finding Light in Darkness

As she recounted her experience, Gadot offered a powerful metaphor. She described her daughter’s name, Ori, which means “my light,” as a symbol of hope amidst uncertainty. “Before the surgery, I told Jaron that when our daughter arrived, she would be the light waiting for me at the end of this tunnel,” Gadot shared.

With a wonderful sense of gratitude, she thanked her team of doctors at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles, acknowledging their relentless support during her recovery journey. “I made it through and began the road to recovery. Today, I am fully healed and filled with gratitude for the life I’ve been given back,” she concluded, conveying a message of hope and resilience.
