John Nallen, the President and COO of Fox Corporation, highlighted the impressive growth of Fox News Media on Monday, forecasting its sustainability as President Donald Trump generates a substantial amount of news. This surge in viewership and engagement has positioned Fox News as a formidable player in the media landscape.
Nallen reported a remarkable 50 percent increase in viewing compared to the same period last year. He noted that in January, Fox News ranked second among broadcast networks during primetime on weekdays, showcasing its competitive edge. In February, the channel claimed the same position, indicating a consistent trend of growth.
At the Deutsche Bank annual Media, Internet & Telecom Conference in Palm Beach, Florida, Nallen elaborated on Fox News’ standing in the broadcast arena, stating that the network now competes closely with major broadcast outlets such as NBC and CBS. He emphasized this shift in focus, stating that the statistics encourage a strong competitive stance towards the broadcast market.
Nallen’s remarks echoed earlier comments from Lachlan Murdoch, Executive Chair and CEO of Fox Corporation. Murdoch reminded investors that despite being a cable channel, Fox News Channel often outperforms free broadcast networks, particularly during critical viewing hours like primetime. The network’s ability to attract viewers has also attracted the attention of advertisers, marking a significant shift in the advertising landscape since the electoral events.
According to Nallen, Fox News has secured nine of the top ten advertisers in America within various sectors including pharmaceuticals, automotive, and travel. Additionally, it holds eight of the top ten in retail and financial sectors. This broad array of high-profile advertisers reflects a major transformation in viewer engagement compared to merely two years ago.
Fox News continued to outperform its competitors, finishing 2024 with the highest share of the cable news audience since 2015. The channel has maintained its number one position in cable news, claiming top viewership for both total day segments and primetime slots for 23 consecutive years. It began 2025 robustly, averaging an unprecedented audience early in the year, further establishing its dominance over rivals like CNN and MSNBC.
Nallen attributed part of this ongoing success to the constant flow of news generated by the Trump administration. He noted that the president’s frequent press conferences contribute significantly to viewer engagement, stating that the volume of news is “shocking.” For instance, one particular event drew an audience of ten million viewers, surpassing combined totals from ABC and CBS.
This alignment between the political environment and viewer interest leads Nallen to believe that Fox News will experience sustained ratings growth in the coming years. He anticipates that the robust flow of news will keep audiences engaged with the Fox News platform.
Moreover, Nallen highlighted that Fox News has onboarded approximately 125 new advertisers since the election. Alongside robust traditional television ratings, the digital arm of Fox News continues to expand significantly. With the rise of digital news consumption, many viewers are increasingly turning to platforms like FoxNews.com, which has shown impressive engagement metrics.
Fox News’ digital reach has been notable; it achieved approximately 410 million views on YouTube in January, outperforming the next news brand by a remarkable margin. This growth affirms that Fox News stands as the number one news brand on this platform, demonstrating the importance of its digital strategy.
January also marked a milestone for Fox News across all major social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, X, and Facebook. Nallen indicated that it was the most successful month for engagement in Fox News’ history. This digital success represents a crucial aspect of the network’s overall performance, further emphasizing Fox News’ strong presence across various media channels.
The evolving landscape of media consumption means that understanding both linear and digital perspectives is essential. Nallen’s assertions regarding the significant consumption of Fox News digital content reveal an untapped potential that many may underappreciate.
As Fox News Media anticipates its future, it plans to leverage the ongoing political landscape and evolving viewer habits to sustain its growth trajectory. The blending of traditional broadcasting with digital innovation will likely shape the pathway forward.
With a track record of adaptability and an engaged audience, Fox News appears poised for continued success. It remains to be seen how emerging trends in media and shifts in political discourse will affect viewer engagement and advertising confidence in the years to come.
