Lawmakers in New Mexico are sounding alarms over a proposed semiautomatic firearms prohibition law, arguing it could transform law-abiding citizens into unintended criminals. This legislation, being debated in Santa Fe, has garnered significant attention for its potential impact on gun ownership rights.
The Gas-Operated Semi-Automatic Firearms Exclusion Act, known as SB 279, aims to ban the import, sale, and possession of semiautomatic firearms and large-capacity ammunition-feeding devices throughout the state.
