Matthew McConaughey recently shared heartfelt advice with his teenage son, Levi, who is stepping into the world of acting. As Levi begins to carve out his own path in Hollywood, the star of the “Dallas Buyers Club” offers insights that resonate deeply.
Levi McConaughey, at 16 years old, has taken his first steps into acting, and during a recent interview with People magazine, he reflected on the guidance his father provided. This red carpet moment marked a significant milestone in both their careers.
“My dad has given me a lot of advice, and he has mentored me in various ways,” Levi shared. He emphasized the importance of authenticity in acting, saying, “The main thing he told me about acting is simple: no nonsense in your bones. Own what you are doing, and make choices—regardless of whether they are right or wrong. Commit to those choices and understand what you are conveying through your performance.”
Levi accompanied McConaughey and his mother, Camila Alves McConaughey, at the SXSW Film Festival. The event celebrated the premiere of McConaughey’s latest movie, “The Rivals of Amziah King.” However, it is Levi’s burgeoning acting career that is now in the spotlight.
Not one to shy away from sharing more wisdom, McConaughey elaborated on the advice he imparted to Levi, underscoring the significance of recognizing one’s individuality and narrative in performance. “You possess a natural talent,” he explained to People. “The key is to articulate where you come from and where you are heading. The best performances happen when an actor is fully engaged in the action, so it feels continuous rather than disjointed.”
He encouraged Levi to take risks, asserting that embracing the possibility of failure can lead to greater success. “Do not shy away from making a fool of yourself. I have done it numerous times, and it’s easier to start big and dial it back than to begin with low energy and struggle to build it back up,” McConaughey advised.
Adding to the excitement, Levi recently secured a supporting role alongside Chris Pratt in the upcoming film “Way of the Warrior Kid.” Joining a cast that includes Linda Cardellini and Jude Hill marks a pivotal moment in Levi’s fledgling career.
Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves began their relationship in 2006, during a time when McConaughey was gaining prominence from hits like “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” and “Failure to Launch.” The couple tied the knot in 2012 and subsequently transitioned their family from California to Texas.
The McConaughey family consists of three children: Levi, Vida, and Livingston. Together they cultivate a life intertwined with their values and beliefs.
Camila Alves opened up about her family’s life in Texas, explaining how the lifestyle aligns closely with her own upbringing and values. She fondly reminisced, saying, “Living here embodies our belief systems, especially the ones I grew up with in Brazil, such as going to church every Sunday and showing respect through terms like ‘yes ma’am’ and ‘no sir’.”
She continued, stating, “Transitioning from Brazil to Texas, I found many similarities in the importance of family, community gatherings, and a strong connection to the outdoors. It has been a truly enriching experience for our family.”
As Levi begins his career in the film industry, he carries with him the wisdom imparted by his father. The McConaughey family’s journey showcases resilience, dedication, and the pursuit of authenticity in both professional and personal realms.
In an industry often marred by high expectations and scrutiny, such grounded advice may prove invaluable. Matthew and Levi’s unique relationship highlights the importance of support and encouragement in navigating life’s challenges, especially in a competitive field like acting.
As they continue on their respective paths, McConaughey’s insights serve as a potent reminder of the need for dedication, authenticity, and bravery in the face of uncertainty.
