Representative Eric Burlison, a Republican from Missouri, has sent a letter to Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred. In the letter, he expresses his belief that pitcher Trevor Bauer has faced exclusion from the league due to his support for former President Donald Trump.

Bauer, a talented pitcher, received a suspension of 324 games in 2021 for violating MLB’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse Policy. This suspension was later reduced to 194 games, accounting for the time he spent on administrative leave in 2021 and the entire 2022 season. Nonetheless, the Los Angeles Dodgers released him before the start of the 2023 season. Consequently, Bauer played professionally in Japan during 2023 and continued his career in Mexico in 2024.

Although Bauer has resolved most of his legal disputes, he insists on his innocence. He has settled with one accuser, while another individual is currently facing 16 years in prison for fraud. This charge emerges from an incident in which she allegedly faked a pregnancy and attempted to extort money from Bauer for an abortion.

He points out that Bauer’s 324-game suspension stands as the longest non-lifetime suspension in the history of the league.
