Pete Hegseth Responds to Signal Chat Leak Amid National Security Concerns

On Tuesday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth addressed questions from reporters about a significant leak from a Signal chat group. This chat involved officials from the Trump administration discussing military operations against the Houthis in Yemen.

During a press conference in Hawaii, Hegseth faced inquiries regarding whether the contents of the chat were declassified before sharing sensitive information. Additionally, he was questioned about whether he utilized the encrypted messaging platform for discussing such operations on government or personal devices.

Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, revealed that he was invited to join this group chat on March 11 by someone who appeared to be Michael Waltz, the National Security Advisor to the former President. Goldberg proceeded to share some of the screenshot exchanges he observed within the chat.

Goldberg highlighted that discussions in the group chat, titled “Houthi PC Small Group,” included
