Youth Street Hockey Tournament Erupts in Violence as Parents Face Charges

A youth street hockey tournament in New Jersey descended into chaos as a brawl broke out involving players and parents, resulting in multiple charges from law enforcement.

During the Veterans Memorial Invitational Tournament in Egg Harbor Township, approximately eight miles from Atlantic City, tension escalated into a physical confrontation between players on the Maple Shade Cadet team and the Frenzy Cadet team.

Several adults quickly intervened to separate the players, but video surveillance revealed that instead of calming the situation, those adults engaged in their own altercation, with two individuals seen wrestling on the ground.

The Egg Harbor Township Police Department announced on Thursday that three adults have been charged in connection with the incident. Colleen Biddle, 41, from Philadelphia, Robert Schafer, 38, hailing from Maple Shade, and Justin Pacheco, 38, also from Philadelphia, are facing charges of simple assault and disorderly conduct. They received summonses requiring them to appear in court.

The American Ball Hockey Alliance (ABHA) released an official statement expressing their disapproval of the events that transpired. They emphasized that such conduct does not represent typical street or dek hockey play and that violence has no place in their sport.

“First and foremost, we want to emphasize that this type of behavior is NOT representative of normal street/dek hockey play, and violence is NEVER condoned in our sport,” the ABHA stated.
