Mickey Rourke finds himself under scrutiny once again, as Bella Thorne publicly accuses the actor of inappropriate behavior during the filming of their 2020 movie, “Girl.” The allegations come on the heels of recent controversy surrounding Rourke’s comments about fellow contestant JoJo Siwa on the reality show, “Celebrity Big Brother.”
Thorne took to Instagram to share her troubling experiences while working with Rourke. In her post, she included a screenshot of Siwa’s accusations against Rourke, referring to him dismissively as “this f—ing dude.”
“GROSS. I had to work with this man – In a scene where I’m on my knees with my hands zip tied around my back. He’s supposed to take a metal grinder to my kneecap and instead he used it on my genitals through my jeans,” Thorne wrote, revealing the harrowing details of the filming experience.
She described the ordeal, stating, “Hitting them over and over again. I had bruises on my pelvic bone – Working with Mickey was one of the all time worst experiences of my life as an actress.”
Thorne’s testimony did not stop there. She mentioned in another post that she has many more disconcerting stories from their time filming. In a particularly distressing scene, Rourke allegedly revved his engine to cover her in dirt, which she perceived as an attempt to humiliate her in front of the crew.
Reflecting on the uncomfortable atmosphere, Thorne said, “IDK I guess he thought it was funny to humiliate me in front of the entire crew.” Furthermore, she narrated her struggle to communicate with Rourke, saying she entered his trailer “completely alone” to persuade him to continue with the project when he refused to engage with the director or producers.
“I felt like I had to beg Rourke to remain in the movie. Everyone’s work would’ve been lost and completely for nothing. I didn’t wanna do it. I was uncomfortable, but I did what I was asked to do and what was best for the movie,” Thorne explained.
In response to Thorne’s alarming claims, Rourke’s representatives released a statement to the media. The statement acknowledged the seriousness of Thorne’s allegations and emphasized Rourke’s denial of any intentional misconduct. They stated, “Mr. Rourke has not been contacted previously with any claims of this nature and was unaware of any discomfort expressed by Ms. Thorne at the time.”
They affirmed, “Out of respect for all parties involved and in light of the gravity of the claims, Mr. Rourke will refrain from commenting further at this time. He is prepared to cooperate fully with any appropriate inquiry.”
As of the latest reports, Bella Thorne’s representatives have not commented on Rourke’s response. Public reactions continue to pour in, adding to the already tangled web of accusations surrounding Rourke.
This incident is just the latest in a series of controversies for Mickey Rourke. Earlier this week, he received a formal warning on “Celebrity Big Brother” for comments he made to JoJo Siwa that were deemed offensive. Rourke asked Siwa if she preferred boys or girls, and his subsequent remarks during the show raised eyebrows among viewers and producers alike.
Siwa, a 21-year-old dancer and actress, expressed her frustration with Rourke’s remarks when she revealed her sexual orientation during their conversation. Rourke’s joking comment, “If I stay longer than four days, you won’t be gay anymore,” was met with laughter from Siwa, but it highlighted the insensitivity of his comments.
Later on, during their time in the yard, Rourke made a jarring statement about voting Siwa out based on her sexuality. “That’s homophobic if that’s your reasoning,” Siwa retorted, bringing attention to the implications of Rourke’s words.
Rourke’s behavior escalated further when he yelled a homophobic slur within earshot of fellow contestants. Even though the term is commonly used in the U.K. to refer to cigarettes, the context caused significant backlash. British host Chris Hughes remarked on Rourke’s insensitivity, pointing out, “You can’t say that, Mickey.”
With comments suggesting he was from “a different planet,” critics and fellow contestants alike have voiced concerns regarding Rourke’s understanding of appropriate social conduct.
Following these events, Rourke sought to apologize to Siwa, admitting, “I just have a bad habit of having a short fuse. I don’t mean nothing by it.” The exchange, while seemingly sincere, didn’t erase the earlier discomfort that had arisen during their interactions.
The allegations made by Bella Thorne against Mickey Rourke underline a growing concern in the entertainment industry about on-set behavior and misconduct. As more voices come forward sharing similar experiences, the importance of creating safe work environments becomes paramount.
While Rourke faces immediate scrutiny over Thorne’s distressing claims and previous comments, the narrative paints a broader picture of the challenges many individuals in the industry encounter.
As this story develops, many will be watching closely how both parties navigate the fallout and whether the industry will take the necessary steps to address these pressing issues.
