Daughter of Dissident Calls for End to Nuclear Talks with Iran Following Father’s Gruesome Death

The daughter of a German-American journalist, whose body was returned mutilated after his execution in Iran, has urged the Trump administration to halt nuclear negotiations with the Islamic Republic. Gazelle Sharmahd made her plea during an interview on Sunday, expressing her profound grief and anger over the treatment of her father, Jamshid ‘Jimmy’ Sharmahd.

Jimmy Sharmahd, aged 69, was a resident of California who was kidnapped during a business trip to the United Arab Emirates in 2020. His journey ended tragically in Tehran, where he was executed in October. Gazelle Sharmahd emphasized the horrific circumstances surrounding her father’s death, as his body showed extreme signs of torture following his return to the United States.

“I traveled to Berlin with my family not to embrace my freed father after five years of torture by these terrorists, but to receive his mutilated body in a box,” she explained. The shocking details surrounding her father’s death reveal a grim reality, showing that he endured physical and psychological torment for over 1,500 days. Gazelle believes this was all visible to the U.S. and German governments, both of whom she claims were idle observers.

Referring to the autopsy report, she stated that critical parts of his body, including his tongue, larynx, thyroid, and heart, were missing, leaving him unrecognizable to family members.

Implications of Nuclear Negotiations

Sharmahd has been a leading critic of Iran’s regime, and his daughter is raising concerns about the ongoing negotiations involving the United States and Germany with a country capable of such heinous acts. She questioned why negotiations would even be considered while a German-American patriot was returned in a mutilated state.

“On the day that a German-American patriot and hostage was returned in pieces in a casket, with his tongue and heart cut out, barely recognizable to my family and me, Germany and the U.S. consider sitting down with the killers of their dual national hostage,” she expressed in disbelief.

Context of Ongoing Talks

Recently, the Trump administration initiated indirect talks with Iran’s clerical government in Oman, a country that holds significance in Jimmy’s kidnapping and subsequent transfer to Iran. This situation raises critical questions about the U.S. approach in dealing with a regime known for its brutality.

Legal Standing Under the Levinson Act

According to the family’s attorney, Jason Poblete, Jimmy Sharmahd’s case falls under the Levinson Act, which recognizes him as an American national due to his permanent residency status in the U.S. This act specifically defines a
