A recent study indicates that wine consumption among Americans is declining, reflecting a broader trend towards reduced alcohol intake. According to a report by the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America’s SipSource, wine sales fell by nearly 8% in 2024 compared to the previous year. This decline affects both dining establishments and retail wine stores, signifying a notable change in consumer behavior.

Overall Trends in the Market

The report, published in early January, highlights that wine sales dropped by 7.9%, which is slightly below the overall decline of 1.3% in on-premise alcohol sales. Notably, dining venues accounted for 55.6% of on-premise wine revenue but lagged behind bars and nightclubs, which capture a more significant share of the market.
