Trump Challenges New York Law Impacting Massapequa High School’s Native American Mascot

Long Islanders are seeking support from former President Donald Trump regarding the future of the Massapequa High School mascot. The local school, identified as the Chiefs, now faces pressure due to a new New York law mandating that schools must eliminate logos associated with indigenous peoples by the end of the year.

Legal Battles Over Mascot Identity

The Massapequa school district has initiated legal action against the state, arguing that the legislation infringes upon their rights. However, a federal court has ruled against the district’s appeal, placing them in a difficult position as they strive to maintain their mascot.

Trump Voices Support on Social Media

Donald Trump has responded to the situation through a post on Truth Social, labeling the suggested name change as “ridiculous.” He expressed strong support for the individuals in Massapequa who are determined to retain the Chiefs logo.

“I stand with the people in Massapequa, Long Island, in their fervent fight to preserve the Massapequa Chiefs logo,” Trump stated. “Mandating that they change the name after so many years is, in fact, an affront to our prominent Indian community. The School Board, along with nearly everyone in the area, is advocating for the preservation of this name. It has become a vital part of the School’s identity. What is inappropriate about using the name ‘Chief’? I doubt we will see the Kansas City Chiefs change their name anytime soon! Through this post, I am calling upon my highly capable Secretary of Education, Linda McMahon, to advocate for the residents of Massapequa on this significant matter. LONG LIVE THE MASSAPEQUA CHIEFS!
