Josh Duhamel Embraces Rural Life in Minnesota, Teaching His Sons Valuable Lessons Beyond Hollywood

Josh Duhamel Embraces Rural Life in Minnesota

Actor Josh Duhamel reveals his preference for raising his children in a serene rural setting over the chaos of Hollywood. The star of the Netflix series “Ransom Canyon” prefers the slower pace of life found in Minnesota, where he believes his children can acquire crucial life skills.

Raising Children Amidst Nature

In a recent interview, Duhamel shared insights with Fox News Digital regarding his decision to nurture his sons in a rustic cabin. He emphasized that his eldest son, Axl, has unique opportunities in Minnesota that would be impossible in Los Angeles.

“I think it’s really about the memories we make as a family. Both sets of grandparents love visiting us here,” Duhamel stated. “Los Angeles has its advantages, but it’s equally important for Axl to get his hands dirty and help with outdoor chores.” The actor appreciates the lessons that come from engaging with nature.

Learning through Experience

One memorable incident illustrates this perfectly. Duhamel recalled a time when their family faced a fallen tree after a winter storm. Axl, who was initially reluctant, helped cut the tree and stack the wood. Duhamel noted, “He may not enjoy it at the moment, but these experiences will make him grateful in the future. These little lessons are invaluable.”

The Family’s Unique Lifestyle

Duhamel, who shares Axl with his ex-wife Fergie, is also the father of one-year-old Shepherd with his wife Audra Mari. He believes that such experiences contribute significantly to their development. Duhamel explained, “We live about 40 miles from the nearest town, so we essentially fend for ourselves. That’s something they cannot replicate in L.A.”

Aside from heavy chores, Duhamel highlights the recreational activities that the family enjoys. “They love jet skiing and tubing on the lake, making the most of our time outdoors,” he remarked.

A Break from the Fast-Paced World

Duhamel’s escape to rural Minnesota provides a different perspective on life. He explains that detachment from the busyness of Hollywood has brought profound benefits. “As soon as I arrive here, my blood pressure drops. My priorities shift toward ensuring basic survival needs are met,” he mentioned. This simplicity offers a refreshing contrast to his normally hectic schedule.

He described a recent challenge involving a frozen septic tank. “I can’t just call someone to fix it; we have to handle it ourselves. It’s a process of problem-solving that fosters independence,” he said.

Back to Basics Brings Gratitude

Duhamel finds joy in the fundamentals of everyday life. “It’s not about taking luxuries for granted. Instead, we focus on essentials like food and warmth. Once those needs are fulfilled, we can find joy and have fun as a family,” he elaborated. His lifestyle encourages them to appreciate what they have.

The actor encourages others to embrace a simpler life as well. “It can be overwhelming for friends when they first visit. However, after a few days, they really start to enjoy the experience. It’s refreshing to step away from technology and get a new perspective on life,” Duhamel stated.

Friends Welcomed to the Cabin

Duhamel frequently invites friends to his cabin for a weekend retreat. Initially, they may feel out of place, but they soon come to appreciate the environment. Duhamel believes this change in pace can be beneficial for everyone. “We miss so much by being glued to our phones and the continuous influx of information. Taking a breath of fresh air can bring clarity to one’s thoughts,” he stated.

A Creative Outlet

Jokingly dubbed his property a “doomsday cabin,” Duhamel humorously notes its remote location. Over the past 15 years, he has invested time in building the rustic cabin, creating a space for relaxation and connection with nature.

“It sits right on the water, resembling a scene from a Terry Redlin painting,” he said. This picturesque retreat serves as a safe haven from Hollywood’s hustle and bustle, which can be draining.

Acting Beyond the Cabin

As for his work life, Duhamel continues to shine on screen in “Ransom Canyon” as Staten Kirkland, who fights to maintain his land. He has a personal connection to his character, having grown up in North Dakota with similar values surrounding land and heritage.

“I relate to my character because of my experiences with owning property and taking pride in it. Although I don’t have livestock, I use tractors and other equipment to manage my land,” Duhamel explained. The character’s journey resonates deeply with him, as both face personal challenges and seek renewal.

A Seasoned Cast and New Beginnings

Duhamel enjoys collaborating with a talented cast, including Minka Kelly and James Brolin, to bring the story to life on screen. Their chemistry enhances the show’s appeal and depth.

In wrapping up his thoughts on the series, he shared his admiration for the cast and crew. “I love the environment we created and the character I portray. It’s refreshing to delve into complex emotions, and the stories we tell resonate with viewers,” he concluded. “Ransom Canyon” is currently streaming on Netflix, waiting to reach its audience.
