Dr. Drew Pinsky has come forward about a harrowing experience involving an alleged stalker who issued threats against his family, forcing local law enforcement to intervene.
The renowned addiction specialist discussed the challenges he faced during this unsettling episode with Fox News Digital, shedding light on the broader issue of stalking, a topic explored in the latest episode of ‘Hollywood Demons.’
Although Dr. Drew never encountered the man in person, he described instances where the stalker made threats of violence and used the small claims court system to harass him. His behavior intensified over time, leading to close calls where Dr. Drew might unexpectedly cross paths with his aggressor.
“One night at the radio station, I was in the building, but someone else left who he mistakenly thought was me. He jumped on the hood of their car, screaming hysterically about me,” the longtime host of ‘Loveline’ recounted. The incident highlighted the disturbing depth of the stalker’s fixation.
Dr. Drew elaborated on the bizarre nature of the stalker’s claims, stating, “He filed several small claims actions against me in Santa Monica that were utterly delusional—claims that I had somehow implanted something in his tooth causing him to have unwanted erections. At first, I dismissed it as nonsense, but when the third summons arrived, I realized I had to appear in court. That could have put me face to face with this individual, and the consequences of that encounter are unknown.”
Despite the gravity of the situation, Dr. Drew and his wife chose to keep the threats from their children. He credited his wife with unraveling the case amidst the chaos.
“The media inaccurately reported that I had a cybersecurity expert, but it was my wife who managed all the detective work. She felt an immense sense of achievement,” he reflected.
Dr. Drew’s wife, Susan, took the initiative to gather the extensive digital evidence created by the stalker and presented it to local authorities. “She compiled everything she found. At first, he stalked me on MySpace, then escalated to court actions, and eventually began showing up in person at places like the radio station. He even created a website filled with threats,” Dr. Drew explained.
He described a moment when Susan confronted a Pasadena police officer, saying, “He claims he will come to our house, has a map, and intends to kill my children and consume them in front of me. You must apprehend him, do you understand?” Strikingly, she added, “I am not afraid to die. If you don’t stop him, I will.””
The emotional weight of such threats cannot be underestimated, and the officers responded by assuring her they would handle the situation. Nevertheless, her determination stood out as a powerful moment in this distressing saga.
At that time, Dr. Drew recognized that the stalker likely suffered from “amphetamine-induced psychosis.” He collaborated with a specialized team within the DEA, advocating for providing treatment for the man’s drug addiction.
“I told them this is psychotic stalking by a meth addict, and he needs comprehensive treatment. He needed to go away for a significant amount of time to address his issues. Eventually, he entered a dual diagnosis program that lasted for two years,” Dr. Drew remarked.
Fortunately, the treatment proved effective. “Afterward, he showed marked improvement. He has not resumed his stalking behavior, demonstrating the positive impact of appropriate treatment,” Dr. Drew concluded.
The current episode of ‘Hollywood Demons’ also brings attention to other celebrities who have faced similar threats, including Justin Bieber, Sandra Bullock, and Ashanti.
Ashanti recalled distressing interactions with a stalker who sent inappropriate messages to her mother, escalating to lewd photos. She described the experience as frightening and intrusive.
Furthermore, Justin Bieber faced multiple stalkers, including a situation that involved a conspiracy to inflict serious harm. In the past, a New Mexico man and his nephew devised a deadly plan to harm the pop star, showcasing the extreme lengths to which some individuals will go.
Sandra Bullock dealt with a stalker who broke into her home despite various security measures. Dr. Drew commented on the serious implications of such incidents, emphasizing that the man believed he was married to the actress, highlighting the severe ramifications of mental health conditions like erotomania.
Erotomania refers to a delusional belief that someone is in love with another person despite no actual relationship. Dr. Drew stated, “It’s alarming when admiration or infatuation crosses the line into dangerous obsession. This marks the beginning of significant trouble for the individual involved and their target.”
