Trump is currently scrutinizing Michigan’s higher education institutions regarding their diversity policies, and Whitmer has expressed concern over the consequences this may have. He has attempted to forcibly remove numerous international students from the state, and threatened to halt federal funding for public schools—a move reminiscent of actions taken in Maine against Governor Janet Mills for merely speaking out in a meeting.
Favreau, posing a challenge to Whitmer in a subsequent video clip, queried, “Have you asked the president to cease targeting individuals and institutions in your state?” The response from Whitmer was measured; she stated, “I have not had that direct conversation on this subject yet, but I’m not afraid to do that.”
Addressing Calls for Support
Amidst the tension, Favreau pressed, “Is it not essential to advocate for the rights and freedoms of those affected when you are present with him, either at an event or in a meeting?” This posed a critique of Whitmer’s interactions with Trump, reflecting concerns from within the Democratic Party about her conciliatory stance.
Whitmer defended her approach, emphasizing, “Whenever I have the opportunity, I leverage every minute to address multiple important issues. This, undoubtedly, is a significant one to raise. I will persist in addressing this whenever I have the chance, no doubt about it.”

Returning to the constitutional crisis theme, Whitmer highlighted a fundamental truth about governance: “Many of us are fighting the fights we can,” she stated, underscoring the importance of the judiciary. “It should be the court of law that has the final say.”
