Pakistan has declared that airstrikes conducted by India constitute an “act of war”. On Wednesday, the Pakistani military asserted that it shot down five Indian fighter jets in a defensive response to these strikes.

The Indian airstrikes targeted numerous locations associated with planning terrorist attacks against India. According to the Indian Defense Ministry, these actions primarily affected sites in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and the eastern Punjab province, resulting in at least 26 casualties, which included women and children.

Responding to the situation, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan reserves the right to respond forcefully to what he termed India’s aggressive actions. He emphasized that a significant response is already underway.

The already strained relations between these nuclear-armed neighbors further escalated after an April incident in which gunmen attacked and killed 26 individuals, primarily tourists in India-controlled Kashmir. He mentioned that two Indian pilots were found injured and subsequently taken away by military personnel.
