Billy Joel’s wife Alexis Roderick Joel recently opened up about her health challenges and the impact on their family life as the singer postpones part of his tour. The couple, married since 2015, has faced significant difficulties, including Alexis’s battle with endometriosis, a painful condition that is often misunderstood.
For years, Alexis endured debilitating symptoms, misdiagnoses, and ineffective surgeries before finally discovering the root of her health issues. Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, leading to chronic pain and fertility challenges. This often debilitating condition can complicate everyday life, particularly when caring for young children.
During her struggle, Alexis found herself managing her health issues while also raising her daughters Della, 9, and Remy, 7, alongside Billy as he traveled for concerts. In an interview with Fox News Digital, she candidly described the demanding lifestyle they maintained.
Alexis remarked, “Being on tour with Billy and our kids while struggling with endometriosis was extremely challenging.” She emphasized the chaos of touring alongside children, highlighting the added strain of dealing with her health condition.
“Traveling with children and adjusting to time zone changes can be overwhelming. Add in a husband who is working and needs focus, and it becomes even more intense, especially while coping with chronic pain,” she continued.
Despite the challenges, Alexis expressed gratitude for the support they received while traveling. “We were fortunate to have a strong support system on tour, which made a significant difference. There are limits to what one can handle, and I was often at mine,” she noted.
Billy Joel has been a pillar of support throughout Alexis’s struggles. Their family dynamics shifted as they navigated health-related obstacles together. Alexis explained how important it was for both of them to work as a team during this period of uncertainty.
Both Billy and Alexis have become more aware of endometriosis through their experiences. Alexis described moments of humor interjected into their stressful days, stating that while they acknowledged her pain, Billy also made light of the situation. “It’s tough when your fuse is short because of pain, but he’s extremely supportive in researching and understanding my condition,” she said.
In recent months, Billy himself has faced health challenges that led to the postponement of his tour. Earlier this year, he made headlines when he announced that he would postpone eight concert dates due to a medical issue. A statement from Joel indicated that he needed time for recovery following surgery and physical therapy.
“The current tour will be rescheduled for four months to allow proper recovery under medical supervision. I appreciate the understanding of our fans during this time,” he said in a public statement.
Billy is expected to make a full recovery, with the tour set to resume at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh. He understands the importance of prioritizing personal health, especially after years of continuous performances and the pressures of touring.
Alexis commented on Billy’s aging and the toll it takes. She stated, “He has been performing consistently for 15 years, and while the passion remains, health must become the priority.” As they approach this new chapter, the couple emphasizes mutual support, which is crucial for their family’s well-being.
In March, Alexis took a bold step, sharing her story as part of Endometriosis Awareness Month. She referred to Dr. Tamer Seckin as her
