Lyle Menendez Expresses Solidarity with Those Grieving on Mother’s Day

As the resentencing hearing for Lyle and Erik Menendez approaches, Lyle has taken to social media to convey a heartfelt message on Mother’s Day. His statement comes decades after he and his brother were convicted of murdering their parents.

In a poignant Facebook post, Lyle Menendez expressed, “To all those who are in pain today for whatever reason… Your mother passed away; You never knew your mom; Your mother was abusive and you struggle with celebrating her; You are estranged from your mother; You wanted to be a mom but aren’t; Your child passed away; You are estranged from your child… or any other reason related to this day, we see you.” This message resonates deeply in a society where many grapple with complex familial relationships.

Lyle, now 57, and Erik, 54, have been incarcerated in California since 1996. They are serving life sentences without the possibility of parole for the 1989 killings of their parents, Jose and Mary
