EXCLUSIVE TO FOX NEWS: Army veteran and business executive Kendall Qualls has officially kicked off his campaign to challenge Governor Tim Walz, a former Democrat vice presidential nominee, in the race for Minnesota’s governor. As the state’s political landscape heats up, Qualls aims to position himself as the candidate who can reverse the impact of Walz’s policies.
Although Walz has not yet announced his intention to run for a third consecutive term, Qualls, who previously attempted to secure the governorship in 2022, presents this election as a critical opportunity for substantive change. He believes that Minnesotans are ready for a new chapter in leadership.
“People in Minnesota want a change. They are tired of years of ineffective governance,” Qualls remarked during an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital prior to the launch of his campaign. “After 16 years of what I call failed leadership, the citizens are searching for a different direction. They need new leadership, and I am committed to providing that.”
In a statement sent to Fox News Digital, Qualls asserted that he is uniquely qualified to steer Minnesota toward fulfilling its potential.
“Minnesota stands at a crossroads,” Qualls stated. “Under Tim Walz, we have seen job losses, businesses leaving the state, a spike in crime, and deteriorating education systems. Instead of focusing on these issues, the governor appears more interested in personal tours outside the state than in addressing the pressing problems at home. This is not what leadership looks like.”
Qualls highlighted concerns about the economy, public safety, and education, advocating for a return to effective policy changes. He argued that these changes cannot come under the current administration.
“It is clear that if we want to restore Minnesota’s rightful path, we need a leader with practical business experience,” Qualls continued. “We also need a candidate committed to law and order to reclaim our streets and restore safety in schools.”
Qualls believes that real change requires bringing in a political outsider. Drawing parallels to President Trump’s approach, he emphasized his business background and his military service as factors that qualify him for the role of governor. Qualls shared his personal journey, explaining how he overcame poverty and adversity.
“I grew up facing significant challenges,” Qualls recounted. “Coming from a background where opportunities seemed limited, I understand the barriers that many face. However, I believe there is a formula for success in America, irrespective of one’s upbringing.”
Qualls underscored the importance of government enabling pathways to success rather than obstructing them. He lamented that many political decisions made by Democrats have only closed doors of opportunity.
Qualls reflected on his journey into the Republican Party, sharing insights into his transformation. “When I turned 18, I registered as a Republican. I felt that the policies promoted by Democrats did little to uplift the communities I cared about,” he explained. His experiences growing up in Harlem and a trailer park in Oklahoma motivated his political beliefs and goals.
As Qualls presents his campaign as the definitive alternative to the current Democrat administration, he is aware of the significance of his past gubernatorial run. “In the previous election, I finished second out of seven candidates in the Republican endorsement process. While I respected the endorsement process, the outcome was disappointing for our party. We lost key positions across the board,” he noted.
This time, however, Qualls approaches the race with a renewed sense of purpose. He believes the lessons learned from 2022 have positioned him better for success.
“I have spent the last four years working diligently across the state, supporting various candidates and building a grassroots movement,” he expressed. “Voters are now seeing a different kind of leadership from me.”
Qualls is intent on leveraging his increased visibility and support among Minnesota Republicans who are eager for change. “People are ready for a campaign that truly connects with their needs and aspirations,” he stated.
As Qualls embarks on this campaign, the spotlight now turns to Governor Walz, who has yet to respond to requests for comment regarding Qualls’ announcement and his forthcoming campaign plans.
Qualls’ emphasis on grassroots support combined with his military and business backgrounds frames him as a serious contender for the governor’s office. As Minnesota approaches the upcoming election, the clarity of each candidate’s vision will be crucial for the electorate.
The stage is set for a potentially transformative election in Minnesota. With Kendall Qualls asserting his position as a viable alternative to Tim Walz, voters will need to weigh the existing administration’s record against Qualls’ promise of change and renewal.
